BLACKPINK becomes the first-ever K-pop girl group to perform at the 2022 MTV VMAs


With the announcement of their comeback, the BLACKPINK members seem to be adding more feathers to their hats, and the recent piece of news is proof! On August 16, 2022, YG Entertainment, the agency associated with the group, revealed that BLACKPINK is all set to appear in the 2022 MTV VMAs. For the unversed, the event is going to take place in New Jersey, USA, on August 28, 2022. The awards ceremony that started in 1987 is on par with Billboard Music Awards, Grammys, and American Music Awards.

Girl groups at the event

Girl groups like Fifth Harmony, Spice Girls, and TLC have rarely performed on the grand stage. According to YG Entertainment, “BLACKPINK is the fourth girl group to perform on stage. Considering the history of MTV VMAs, one can see BLACKPINK’s strong global influence and current status.” For the unversed, the K-pop girl group won the Song of The Summer award for their track How You Like That two years ago at the MTV VMAs. Now, this time, the nomination is for the ‘Best Metaverse Performance’ category. Another BLACKPINK member, Lisa’s solo track LALISA is also nominated under the ‘best K-pop’ category.

BLACKPINK’s preparations

YG Entertainment has also revealed that the BLACKPINK members are preparing a special stage that is all set to brighten up the awards ceremony.

Pink Venom

The BLACKPINK members are all set to release their new song, Pink Venom, on August 19, 2022. For the unversed, it is a pre-release song from the group’s second regular album, BORN PINK, which is all set to release on September 16, 2022. The agency has also confirmed that BLACKPINK will be conducting the countdown live stream for their track Pink Venom on YouTube. The live stream will start on August 19, 2022, at 12 pm KST.

Previously, the BLACKPINK members also confirmed releasing their second album, BORN PINK, on September 16, 2022. Moreover, YG Entertainment also revealed the teaser image of BORN PINK on the group’s official blog on August 10, 2022. The agency further stated, “Please look forward to an album full of music that matches BLACKPINK’s unique identity, which is the fatal aura itself.”
