BLACKPINK makes history with BORN PINK for the highest first-week sales by a female artist

The BLACKPINK members have made history with their latest album BORN PINK, and this has left the BLINKs excited! On September 16 at 1 pm KST, the album had become the very first by any female artist in the history of Hanteo to have sold over a million copies on the very first day. According to the latest reports, Hanteo has now stated that BORN PINK has sold a whopping total of 1,542,950 copies in the first week of its release, the timeline for which was between September 16 to 22, 2022. This makes the quartet the first-ever K-pop girl group to reach 1.5 million album sales within its first week.

BLACKPINK’s record

As of now, BLACKPINK has doubled its previous first-week sales record of 689,066 and also broke another band, Aespa’s record for the highest first-week sales by any female artist in the history of Hanteo. Talking about Aespa, the girl group had earlier set a record with Girls that sold 1,126,068 copies earlier this year.

Coming back to BLACKPINK, the girl group’s previous first-week sales record on Hanteo was set by The Album in 2020, which reportedly sold 689,066 copies.

BORN PINK makes history

BLACKPINK’s recently released album BORN PINK has also broken the record for the highest first-week sales by any female artist in history, as per the Circle Chart data. It reported a whopping figure of 2,141,281 copies sold, which makes the album the first double million seller by a K-pop girl group.

Not only BORN PINK, but its title track, Shut Down, has been breaking multiple records everywhere upon its release. YG Entertainment, the agency associated with BLACKPINK, earlier announced the album BORN PINK’s title song, which is Shut Down. It was released in a total number of 43 countries and topped the iTunes song charts. The song had an even distribution of popularity in Asia, Oceania, Europe, and North and South America and climbed to the top of the iTunes Worldwide chart in no time! It also topped the charts in 54 countries on the iTunes Album Chart, including the UK and the US. The song further succeeded in reaching the top of the Apple Music album chart in not one but 60 countries.
