Rosé got candid while explaining the main cause behind creating her second single. She told Lowe that even though she was attending a plethora of events almost every day, she felt like she was still chasing after something and never felt fully satisfied despite receiving millions’ worth of well-wishes and love from BLINKS all over the world.

One night, the ‘APT’ hitmaker recalled, “I ended up finding myself on social media, and then I end up looking for all these comments that are just going to obviously shatter me … I’m so disappointed in myself. Because I think I’ve grown up being like, ‘Be confident in yourself. When people say things to you, don’t let it get to you.'”

The New Zealand native confessed that she was “obsessed” over how these naysayers kept hating on her and felt their comments affected her. She noted that ‘Number One Girl’ represents ‘toxic relationships,’ something which several of her young fans can resonate with while listening to the track.

“The first thing that happened was anxiety, because I was privileged to have this one year in my hands to do whatever I wanted with it, but I wanted it to be the right decision and it had to feel right … What if I don’t believe in my thing? And what if I’m in a place where I’m having to do things that I don’t feel like it’s me?” she said about finding her self-identity by putting out her album.

When ‘APT’ found itself on rank. 1 of the Billboard charts, Rosé earned the title of being the first female K-pop star in that position, and the second solo artist to top the charts after PSY, who rose to international fame for ‘Gangnam Style.’

The collaboration had also entered a second week at the summit of the ARIA Chart, marking her as the second Korean solo artist, and the first female K-pop artist to enjoy the position for more than a week, following PSY’s rule in 2015.
