Blue Bloods Season 13 Filming Updates
According to executive producer Siobhan Byrne O’Connor, the intention is for filming to begin towards the end of July. She made the comment on her most recent Instagram post (see below). The cast and crew still have plenty of time to produce episodes before the show returns in October.
In case the readers aren’t aware, the producers usually prefer that episodes be shot for network TV at least six weeks before they air, as this gives the post-production team plenty of time to put them together after the fact. Hence, late July seems like the right time frame to commence the production for Blue Bloods Season 13. Take a look at the official post with the comment below:

Why did CBS renew Blue Bloods for Season 13?
According to Deadline, the series has been a rock-solid performer at 10 p.m. on Fridays, where it has aired since 2010 other than a four-week tryout on Wednesdays in its first year. It is currently the No. 4 series on broadcast television, averaging 9.81M viewers. The move comes amid a slew of renewals for the network, which has handed new seasons to the NCIS franchise – NCIS, NCIS: Hawai’i and NCIS: LA – CSI: Vegas, and S.W.A.T. as well as comedies including Young Sheldon, The Neighborhood, Bob Hearts Abishola, and Ghosts, while Bull is ending its run this season.
“America’s favorite first family of law enforcement is back for Season 13,” said Kelly Kahl, president of CBS Entertainment. “The Reagans possess an incredible bond with audiences literally everywhere and on every platform. And in its 12th season, with over 250 episodes, Blue Bloods not only continues to dominate in the ratings but excels at an exceptionally high creative level.”
What is expected from Blue Bloods for Season 13?
According to Deadline, for Blue Bloods setting the stage for one of the major plot lines of Season 13, the sit-down ending of Season 12 of the Kevin Wade-run CBS series once again reveals a show that still knows and plays to its strengths. Even though there are some gruesome corpses, reunions, tense improv bombsquadding, sex trafficking busts, and an adoption, warhorse Frank Reagan, his cop clan, and extended family all make it out alive and intact in the Siobhan Byrne O’Connor penned ‘Silver Linings’ finale.
In the interview with the Executive Producer, Wade talked about the Season 12 finale of the Donnie Wahlberg Will Estes, Marissa Ramirez, Vanessa Ray, Len Cariou, and sometimes Will Hochman co-starring series.
As well as addressing the fictional civic headbutting between the Big Apple’s top cop and the top prosecutor that mirrors what’s going on in many cities and jurisdictions across the nation, the EP also gave a bit of a blueprint of just how that D.A. race could play out in Blue Bloods Season 13.
He stated that “Season 13 would have two tracks for Erin. Doing the job she has, and challenging herself, and being challenged about her fitness for the job she wants. And what she’s willing, and not willing, to do in order to get it. So plenty of horse-trading, soul-searching, and disruption with the powers that be, her partner Anthony, and especially her family.”
Blue Bloods Season 13: What happened in the finale episode?
The upcoming season is expected to pick up from the finale episode of the 12th season which is the 20th episode, Silver Linings, released on May 6, 2022. The episode was directed by Ralph Hemecker and written by Siobhan Byrne O’Connor. The episode is estimated to be viewed by 6.23 million US viewers.
The official synopsis of the episode states, “Jamie and Joe search for an undocumented teenage girl who has been sex-trafficked; a woman in witness protection is murdered; Frank calls out the district attorney’s office for instituting a new rule that classifies armed robbery as a misdemeanor.”
The viewers also got to see that, when Danny and Baez’s investigation into a pregnant lady dying in a bomb explosion collided with Jamie and Joe’s quest for an undocumented teenage girl exploited for sexual purposes, Danny and Jamie joined forces with their nephew Joe Hill. The infant miraculously survived, and Baez eventually decided to adopt it.
The teenage girl who was wearing a bomb was found by the united teams, but Danny disarmed it. Then, at the family meal where Joe rejoined the group, a new person joined them as well: Anthony Abetemarco, who was invited as a result of Erin’s announcement that she will be running for district attorney.
