Will the beloved drama series return much sooner than you anticipated? Continue reading to find out more about Bridgerton Season 3.
The enchanting world of Regency-era London in Bridgerton will soon return with its tantalizing love stories, which will continue to unfold and captivate the fans with the scandalous secrets and irresistible charm that have made this series a global phenomenon! The massive hype surrounding the series is unquestionable, and there is no doubt that the fans have started to bombard their social media handles with queries relating to its release date, plot, and cast, among other details. So, if you are speculating about the same, then, especially for you, we have listed all the latest updates that have been released right here!
Here is everything we know so far about Netflix’s Bridgerton Season 3.
Bridgerton Season 3 Release Date: Will it premiere in August 2023 or not?
If you recall, the series was renewed back in April 2021 for a third and fourth season!
The early renewal was approved because the show was able to make a record-setting second season, which surpassed season one in viewership and cemented Bridgerton as a franchise that deserves to be renewed further for more seasons in order to explore these beloved characters which are based on the book series by Julia Quinn. Soon after the confirmation, the third season began principal photography back in July 2022, which eventually wrapped earlier this year in March 2023. Since then, no official announcement regarding the release date has been made by the network.
Hence, we can assure you that the anticipated premiere date for Bridgerton Season 3 has not been confirmed by Netflix for August 2023!
On the bright side, we have to highlight that the ideal release window for the show’s return in late 2023 seems pretty evident to happen as the time required to complete the post-production, which usually lasts about 5 to 6 months, has also reached its end, so there is a chance that soon we will get treated with an official release date. For the readers who are curious to know about the potential release date then we can assure you that the network will soon start revealing more details as the show has not been affected by the ongoing 2023 WGA and 2023 SAG-AFTRA strikes because the filming was completed way before the strikes officially began!
This is a great sign and brings confidence to the fandom that things are moving rather smoothly behind the scenes. That’s not all! If you have been keeping up with the Bridgerton community regularly, then you’ll know that many fans have pointed out that the release date might have accidentally got leaked by multiple Netflix social media accounts who shared the date and then quickly removed the posts, which caused a bit of hysteria among the fandom. According to the deleted posts, Bridgerton season 3 is all set to premiere this winter streaming season by premiering new episodes on Thursday, December 14, 2023!
Of course, this is not confirmed yet, but it’s looking like that might be the actual date, as previously it was also reported that the season might be aiming for a late 2023 release, which has excited the fans, to say the least as there is no reason for the network to push back the release window for sometime around early 2024. We’ll just have to wait and see what the future holds! Until then, it is expected to have the same time slot, which is 12:00 a.m. (PT) or 3:00 a.m. (ET). Bridgerton Season 3 Plot: What is the new season about?
The third season will follow Quinn’s fourth novel, “Romancing Mister Bridgerton,” which will focus on Penelope and Colin’s friendship turning into one of the best romantic relationships!
The official synopsis of the season states as follows: In Season 3, Penelope has finally given up on her long-held crush on Colin after hearing his disparaging words about her last season. She has, however, decided it’s time to take a husband, preferably one who will provide her with enough independence to continue her double life as Lady Whistledown, far away from her mother and sisters. But lacking in confidence, Penelope’s attempts on the marriage mart fail spectacularly.
Meanwhile, Colin has returned from his summer travels with a new look and a serious sense of swagger. But he’s disheartened to realize that Penelope, the one person who always appreciated him as he was, is giving him the cold shoulder.
Eager to win back her friendship, Colin offers to mentor Penelope in the ways of confidence to help her find a husband this season. But when his lessons start working a little too well, Colin must grapple with whether his feelings for Penelope are truly just friendly. Complicating matters for Penelope is her rift with Eloise, who has found a new friend in a very unlikely place, while Penelope’s growing presence in the town makes it all the more difficult to keep her Lady Whistledown alter ego a secret.

In addition to this, we finally got our very first update when Nicola Coughlan stopped by Tudum: A Global Fan Event to reveal the first photos of the fetching couple Penelope Featherington and her longtime crush, world traveler Colin Bridgerton, in Bridgerton Season 3. The new photos showcased Penelope with a “whole new look,” and Colin looking every bit fresh and handsome from his travels to France, Spain, and Italy.
During the event, Coughlan was greeted by excited Polin fans as she talked about what they can expect to see in the third season, stating, “We open our season with the ton’s return from the countryside… Both Colin and Pen have done some growing up. And only time will tell how their friendship will develop.” She added, “This season, Penelope returns to London determined to become a new woman with a new independence… We cannot wait to take you along for the carriage ride.”
Until then, we urge the readers to take a look at the complete Tudum: A Global Fan Event, which was live-streamed last month on June 18, 2023, from Sao Paulo, Brazil, to get a quick insight into the first official look for Bridgerton Season 3 that will bring joy to all the POLIN fans!
*Spoiler Alert*
This season will also continue after Season 2’s Featherington Ball. Penelope is left heartbroken after overhearing Colin say to a group of bachelors that he would never court her… But Penelope is moving away from her crush on Colin and is determined to find herself a husband who’ll allow her the independence to continue her work as Lady Whistledown. But Colin quickly realizes that he’s losing his long-time friend and wants to win her back. He then offers to help Penelope improve her confidence to better attract a proposal.
Once Colin’s lessons start to work a little too well, he’ll have to grapple with the possibility that his feelings for Penelope aren’t strictly platonic. Penelope’s falling out with Colin’s little sister Eloise Bridgerton (Jessie) – who will find an unlikely new friend in Season 3 – further complicates the Polin matter. This is different from how the books are supposed to be read because book 3 is about Benedict Bridgerton’s courtship and marriage, while book 4 is about Penelope and Colin’s romance.
So, their story has been adapted as a series before the third season is exciting as their bond has been kind of hinted at since the inception of the show, which turns into Bridgertons first friends-to-lovers trope! Nicola Coughlan also mentioned to Netflix Tudum that the pair is “the Ross and Rachel” of Bridgerton, adding, “But Penelope is the Ross. She’s the one secretly harboring the love for him.” Luke Newton also wants to see another side to his character. “I’m hoping that he has sort of a more sensitive side to him,” Newton added.
“I love that we are exploring a relationship that so many people have had, where you form a friendship and you get to know each other down to the core. Then it sparks something from there.”
Moreover, the main official synopsis from the first lines of the pilot episode titled, Out of the Shadows states, “Dearest gentle reader, we’ve been apart for far too long. At last, London’s smart set has made its return, and so too has this author. As the season begins the question on everyone’s minds is, of course, which newly-minted debutante will shine the brightest? The crop this year appears to be rather dazzling indeed, unfortunately, not every young lady can attract the light.”
Bridgerton Season 3 Cast: Who will and will not return?
There is no question that Nicola Coughlan as Penelope Featherington and Luke Newton as Colin Bridgerton will be the main actors surrounding the story for the new season. Jonathan Bailey and Simone Ashley were confirmed to return for the third season as Viscount and Viscountess Bridgerton, exploring their married lives and responsibilities as heads of the eponymous family.
Along with Adjoa Andoh, Luke Newton, Jessica Madsen, Harriet Cains, Florence Hunt, Polly Walker, Emma Naomi, Luke Thompson, Hugh Sachs, Bessie Carter, Ruth Gemmell, Golda Rosheuvel, Claudia Jessie, Julie Andrews, and Martins Imhangbe, Hannah Dodd was cast to replace Ruby Stokes as Francesca Bridgerton in the third season. Due to scheduling conflicts, Stokes had to leave the show. Chandran will not return as Edwina for the rest of the season.
Three new male actors have signed on for the new season: Daniel Francis has joined the cast as Marcus Anderson, Sam Phillips as Lord Debling; and James Phoon as Harry Dankworth. Hannah New, who will play the young widow Lady Tilley Arnold, as a firebrand widow. Widowed at an early age, she enjoys the privileges and power that come with being at the helm of her former husband’s estate, living life on her own terms with financial independence and sexual freedom.
On the other hand, the cast members who are reported to not reprise their roles is Regé-Jean Page, who played the Duke of Hastings in the first season. He is not the only one not making an appearance in the third season, as back in January 2023, Phoebe Dynevor, who plays Daphne, also confirmed she would not be returning but could reprise her role ‘potentially in the future.’ Lastly, Jess Brownell will replace Van Dusen as writer and showrunner for the third and fourth seasons.
Bridgerton Season 3 Episodes: How many will be there, and where to stream?
The upcoming season is expected to have a total of 8 episodes with an average runtime of 57 to 72 minutes, which will drop at once, so you can binge it instantly! On the other hand, the episode titles and synopsis of the series are not released by the network to avoid early spoilers. As the network will publish those details when the episodes are due to air on the streaming service. So, we would advise fans to be patient while waiting for these updates, which will be issued once the episodes air.
Furthermore, ever since the first look was recently revealed, any hopes for additional details being disclosed anytime soon are farfetched to assume, as the network will try its best to avoid early potential spoilers!
Until then, we urge the readers to check out the series, which is available exclusively on Netflix, with other series of the same genre also accessible on the streaming platform with a range of membership options. The video quality and the number of screens you can use to stream Netflix simultaneously depend on the package you choose. The basic membership starts at $9.99/month, and the standard membership starts at $15.49/month at no additional cost for any of their services.
Bridgerton Season 3 Official Trailer: Has it been released?
Unfortunately, much to everyone’s excitement, we are sad to report this to you, but Netflix has not released any new teaser or trailer for the third season, as the release date hasn’t even been confirmed yet. So, there is still a lot of time left for such promotional stuff to begin! In the meantime, we suggest you take a look at the official trailer for season two, which suggests:
Driven by his duty to uphold the family name, Anthony’s search for a debutante who meets his impossible standards seems ill-fated until Kate Sharma and her younger sister Edwina Sharma arrive from India. When Anthony begins to court Edwina, Kate discovers the true nature of his intentions. A true love match is not high on his priority list – and she decides to do everything in her power to stop the union. But in doing so, Kate and Anthony’s verbal sparring matches only bring them closer together, complicating matters on both sides. Across Grosvenor Square, the Featheringtons must welcome the newest heir to their estate while Penelope continues to navigate the ton whilst keeping her deepest secret from the people closest to her.
In addition to this, for the second season, Rotten Tomatoes reported an approval rating of 78% based on 89 reviews, with an average rating of 7.2/10. The website’s critics’ consensus states, “The risqué thrill may have faded, but Bridgerton remains a compulsive episode-turner in this delightful sophomore season.” Metacritic gave a score of 70 out of 100 based on 32 reviews, indicating “generally favorable reviews.”
