When is Bridgerton Season 3 coming to Netflix? Read on to find out.

The moment Bridgerton dropped on Netflix, it took the internet by storm with its riveting plotline and its exquisite cast. Who would not choose to see it? Ever since Bridgerton season 2 hit the Netflix library, fans have been frustratingly anticipating season 3.

Adapted by Shona Rhimes’ Shondaland Productions for Netflix, Bridgerton, for those unversed, is inspired by a series of eight novels written by Julia Quinn. The romance drama follows the life of the Bridgerton family, which consists of widowed matriarch Violet (Ruth Gemmell) and her eight children, who are currently looking for marriage suitors in Regency England’s aristocratic society.

The first season of Bridgerton, which premiered on December 25, 2020, covered the first daughter, Daphne’s (Phoebe Dynevor) potential suitors that lead her to form connections with Simon Basset, Duke of Hastings (Rege-Jean Page). The second season is based on the second book of the novel series, following the life of the eldest brother Anthony’s (Jonathan Bailey) romance with the naïve Kate Sharma, which will not fail to remind you of Darcy and Lizzy’s love story trope.

With that said, here’s a comprehensive run-down of the Bridgerton season 3 containing all the necessary information you need.

When is Bridgerton season 3 releasing on Netflix?

Unfortunately, Netflix hasn’t dropped any release date for Bridgerton season 3 as of yet. The streaming giant has only revealed that the season is currently in production. However, if we take an educated guess taking into consideration the release dates of seasons 1 and 2 after their production and post-production processes, season 3 is expected to arrive sometime on Netflix in spring 2023.

According to the official synopsis revealed by Netflix:

“Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) has finally given up on her long-held crush on Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) after hearing his disparaging words about her last season. She has, however, decided it’s time to take a husband, preferably one who will provide her with enough independence to continue her double life as Lady Whistledown, far away from her mother and sisters. But lacking in confidence, Penelope’s attempts on the marriage mart fail spectacularly. Meanwhile, Colin has returned from his summer travels with a new look and a serious sense of swagger. But he’s disheartened to realize that Penelope, the one person who always appreciated him as he was, is giving him the cold shoulder. Eager to win back her friendship, Colin offers to mentor Penelope in the ways of confidence to help her find a husband this season. But when his lessons start working a little too well, Colin must grapple with whether his feelings for Penelope are truly just friendly. Complicating matters for Penelope is her rift with Eloise (Claudia Jessie), who has found a new friend in a very unlikely place, while Penelope’s growing presence in the ton makes it all the more difficult to keep her Lady Whistledown alter ego a secret.”

Bridgerton Season 3

If you have read Quinn’s books, then upon reading this official synopsis, you will discover that there is a deviation from the novel content since the novel, An Offer From a Gentleman, which is reportedly taken as a base for Bridgerton season 3, focuses upon Benedict (Luke Thompson). The novel largely follows the Cinderella trope where Benedict falls for Sophie, an earl’s daughter who is subjected to be subservient to her cruel stepmother. The fourth season, which was renewed along with the third one on April 13th, 2021, will be based on Romancing Mr Bridgerton.

In a conversation with Variety, Jess Brownell, the showrunner for season 3 mentioned the deviation in the chronology. Brownell said, “I really feel like it’s Colin and Penelope’s time. Because we’ve been watching both of these actors on our screens since season 1, we’ve already invested in them a little bit. We know who they are as people,” she said. “I feel like, especially in the last season, there are these moments of tension between them where it’s like, Colin walks up to the line of almost realizing that Penelope has feelings for him but doesn’t quite get there. Instead of treading water on that dynamic, we wanted to push it into their season. It really felt like the perfect moment to tee it up.”

“The boys are back in town. (No, I’m not going back to the show btw – the papers made that one up) But we had the best, and most stylish, catch-up I’ve had in a while over some truly excellent Italian coffee and sunshine.”

Is there a trailer for Bridgerton season 3?

Netflix hasn’t dropped an official trailer of Bridgerton season 3 as of yet. However, on July 20, 2022, the cast gave us a glimpse of some behind-the-scenes looks, confirming that the show is currently under production in London.

In addition, during Netflix’s annual TUDUM event, Bridgerton season 3 shared the title of the first episode, written by Brownell and directed by Tricia Brock: “Out of Shadows”.

During the same event, Coughlan read the first few lines of season 3’s opening monologue:

“Dearest Gentle Reader, we’ve been apart for far too long. At last, London’s smart set has made its return, and so, too, has This Author. As the season begins, the question on everyone’s minds is, of course: Which newly minted debutante will shine the brightest? The crop this year appears to be rather dazzling indeed. Unfortunately, not every young lady can attract the light.”
