It’s Benedict’s turn!

After a year of swooning over the intense chemistry between Polin (Penelope and Colin) in Season 3, it is time to turn the page and welcome Benedict Bridgerton’s story based on the Julia Quinn novel from the ‘Bridgerton’ series titled, ‘An Offer From A Gentleman.’ Netflix announced this much-awaited news through a carefully-curated Instagram post, tying together several snaps from the previous seasons of the show featuring Benedict’s onscreen moments.

The post was captioned, “Welcome to the marriage mart Mr. Bridgerton,” before adding, “Benedict’s story is coming next season.” The video skillfully signals the character’s acceptance of his position as the main lead of the series in Season 4, with one clip where Benedict says, “I am honored to accept your acceptance.” This was a throwback to Season 1 of the show where he was thrilled to have been accepted as a student of arts in a prestigious institution.

Towards the end of the clip, Luke Thompson appears as himself holding the ‘Bridgerton’ script in his hands and opening the door to face the camera. He is handed a suit that he has to be fitted into, and appears confused. But when he is informed, that the fitting is for a masquerade ball, he resolves his confusion and answers, “In that case, come on in!”

*spoiler alert*

For those unversed with the Julia Quinn-authored book on which his story is based, Benedict meets his better half at his mother’s masquerade ball. That is where his story is supposed to take off. For those who didn’t catch the tease in the last few moments of Season 3 of Bridgerton, while speaking to his sister Eloise, who was parting from Mayfair to go reside in Scotland with her married sister Francesca and her husband John Stirling, she asked Benedict to not miss their mother’s masked ball next season. And Benedict replied saying he could never miss that.

After 3 successful Seasons of the period romance drama, with Daphne, Anthony, and Colin Bridgerton finding their love matches, the audience is thrilled to explore the story of Benedict and Sophie and wonders if they will be able to match up the chemistry level of their predecessors.

It seems like Thompson himself had been in the dark about his character being the lead next season as demonstrated in his earlier interview with The View in June. He said at the time, “I don’t know.” The actor continued, “I know that it’s so lovely [and] that one of the best things about a TV job is you get to really explore a character long-form like that and fill him in slowly,” before adding, “So as long as I keep getting to do that.”

Netflix also released a teaser synopsis concerning Season 4 of Bridgerton, which reads, “Despite his elder and younger brothers both being happily married, Benedict is loath to settle down — until he meets a captivating Lady in Silver at his mother’s masquerade ball.”

While Netflix has already name-dropped the lead of the next season, we would encourage you to not get your hopes up on the hasty arrival of his Season. New showrunner Jess Brownell has already revealed to The Hollywood Reporter in an earlier interview that it usually takes them 2 years to get a season out. So, we may be looking at 2026 for a potential release.

Seasons 1-3 of Bridgerton as well as its coveted spinoff, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story are all streaming on Netflix.
