Britney Spears is getting back into her groove following the release of her bombshell memoir, The Woman in Me. In a recent Instagram post on Sunday, October 29, the pop star thrilled her fans by announcing that she is writing music again and unveiled the title of her new track.

However, the choice of words for this new track has sparked speculation among many fans, leaving them curious about whether the songstress is once again throwing shade at Selena Gomez.

‘Hate You to Like Me’

“I wrote a new song !!!” the singer wrote on Instagram on October 29, alongside a shot from her 2001 ‘Overprotected’ music video. The songstress also added the name of the new track in the caption, “Hate You to Like Me.” The ‘Toxic’ singer went on to clarify that she has “no beef with anyone,” adding that she is “just being a narcissist in a claimed, self-entitled way.”

However, eagle-eyed fans were quick to notice the striking resemblance between Spears’ supposed song’s title and Gomez’s hit breakup anthem ‘Lose You to Love Me.’ Fans took to X, formerly Twitter, to accuse Spears of shading Gomez. “Is she shading Selena again?” one user wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “Britney Spears can’t enjoy her memoir and all the praise she’s getting… she just had to find a way to insult Selena somehow,” a second person tweeted.

Spears accused of throwing shade at Gomez back in 2022

Spears, 41, has previously been accused of throwing shade at the Rare Beauty founder, 31, in October 2022. The incident stemmed from Gomez’s speech in 2016 in which she told young girls that she “[didn’t] want to see [their] bodies” on Instagram.

The ‘Criminal’ hitmaker took to Instagram, seemingly referencing Gomez’s 2020 “Ice Cream” music video with Blackpink, and wrote: “They say ‘This is NOT something I would do’ yet those women are the very ones who get 4 million dollar budget videos made about sucking and licking on homemade ice cream !!!!”

Spears continued, “So the next time I see someone with a big budget video sucking on lollipops yet giving righteous speeches shaming other women for exposing their bodies, I would like to tell those people don’t be a hypocrite as you suck on your lollipop having HUGE budget dreams…” However, Spears quickly denied the claims in another post, saying, her caption “had nothing to do with anyone specific at all.”

Spears’ ex-husband Sam Asghari allegedly hit on Gomez

The beef between Spears and Gomez allegedly began when the latter attended Spears’ wedding with estranged husband Sam Asghari in June 2022. Netizens claim that Asghari allegedly tried to flirt with the ‘Same Old Love’ singer during his union with Spears. “I promise Selena didn’t want Sam. Britney is [very] weird for that,” a fan tweeted.
