Britney Spears’ family is reportedly deeply worried for the singer’s safety after video footage surfaced showing her driving erratically following a night out in California. According to a Daily Mail report, relatives fear the pop star is “losing control” and have compared her recent behavior to the period leading up to her 2007 breakdown.

The footage, obtained by Page Six, shows the 43-year-old pop icon leaving Red-O restaurant in Thousand Oaks, California, last Wednesday night with a friend. Despite others appearing to urge her not to drive, Spears got behind the wheel of her black BMW convertible. The video captured the vehicle making a sharp U-turn with its tires screeching before she reportedly swerved across lanes and into a bike lane. At one point, she also crossed the road’s center divider while heading home.

Sources told the Daily Mail that Spears’ family is in “crisis talks” over how to intervene. “There’s a lot of concern. Everyone has always wanted the best for her, and she’s showing right now that she’s making bad choices,” one insider said. “It’s terrifying,” the source added. “So there’s a lot of talk about what to do, if anything. How can we protect her from herself.”

The situation has reportedly prompted internal discussions among family members about possible next steps, with some insiders suggesting that a conservatorship could be reinstated. Spears’ previous conservatorship, which lasted 13 years and was overseen in part by her father, Jamie Spears, ended in 2021 following widespread public outcry and the viral #FreeBritney movement.

“The last time that Jamie stepped in to protect his daughter, he became public enemy number one,” the source told the outlet. “People said he was trying to grab her money, which is not true. So the question is whether anyone should step in to help her, and deal with the backlash.”

A representative for Spears did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment regarding the driving incident or her family’s alleged concerns.

Spears’ recent erratic behavior has unfolded amid renewed public scrutiny of her personal life. Her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, recently released a memoir titled You Thought You Knew, in which he makes a series of damaging allegations about the singer. Among the claims are that Spears allegedly used cocaine while breastfeeding their two sons, Sean Preston, now 20, and Jayden James, now 19, and that she allegedly said she wished the boys were dead.

In response, a spokesperson for Spears told Page Six, “He and others are profiting off her. Sadly, it comes after child support has ended with Kevin. All she cares about are her kids … and their well-being during this sensationalism.”

As the public fallout from Federline’s book continues, Spears has also made troubling statements on social media. In a recent Instagram post, she claimed that years under strict control caused her lasting harm. “I do feel like my wings were taken away and brain damage happened to me a long time ago 100 percent… I have of course moved on from that troubling time in my life and I’m blessed to be alive,” she wrote.

Spears has also publicly accused Federline of “gaslighting” her and spreading “white lies” in his memoir, describing his claims as manipulative and untrue.

The renewed attention to Spears’ well-being follows years of intense public interest in her mental health and legal battles. Her conservatorship, imposed in 2008, gave her father and other court-appointed figures control over her finances, medical care, and personal decisions. After years of legal petitions and public campaigning, a judge formally terminated the arrangement in November 2021.

Since regaining control of her life, Spears has frequently used social media to share personal reflections, frustrations, and videos from her daily life. However, those close to her now fear her recent behavior could mark a troubling return to instability.

As of now, neither Spears nor her family has publicly commented on whether any intervention is being considered.
