The members of the popular K-pop band BTS may have to enlist for mandatory military services at the end of the year. Well, the sad part here is that the public may not have any say in the matter. Just a day earlier, it was reported that a public opinion is supposed to be set up by the Republic of Korea’s Ministry of National Defense to decide whether or not should the Bangtan Boys enlist for their military service, get an option for social service, or get exempted from the same.
Ministry’s change of decision
According to the latest reports, the ministry is said to have backed out and decided not to go ahead with the public poll. They are said to have claimed that any report indicating that any public survey could directly influence the ministry’s decision about the Septet’s mandatory military service was actually incorrect. The ministry also reportedly emphasized the fact that it is a matter of importance and that it would not be decided solely based on public opinions.
Reason behind the decision
The ministry’s decision regarding the public poll comes at a time when many people lashed out, claiming that the government is trying to push its responsibilities to the public. All the events happened after assemblyman Sul Hoon had asked for people’s opinions to assess their views. They stressed that public views were critical in this case. Defense Minister Lee Jong Sub had asked for a quick discussion and conclusion on the same matter.
