In the latest news of the famous septet of South Korea, BTS, they were officially announced as the ambassadors for the World Expo 2030 Busan, Korea. On Tuesday 19th of July, the official announcement came during a ceremony at the HYBE’s headquarters in Seoul.
Promising to fulfill the necessary ambassador duties, RM said during the ceremony, “We are honoured to be appointed ambassadors for World Expo 2030 Busan. BTS will do our best to support in bringing the World Expo 2030 to Busan.” He further added, “We will also make extra efforts to not only support the nation’s bid but also promote the beautiful nature and culture of the Republic of Korea worldwide.”

Han Duk-soo, South Korea’s Prime Minister, extended his gratitude towards the septet and said, “The most essential part to our success would be the support from Korean citizens as well as the global community.” He also expressed his unwavering faith in the boy band, who “will take the most pivotal role during the process.” He further added, “With support from BTS and our people, we will be able to achieve our goal.”
However, before BTS was officially appointed as the ambassadors for the World Expo, their entertainment agency, HYBE, had already announced on June 24 that the septet would be conducting a concert that would bolster South Korea’s proposal of hosting the upcoming World Expo in Busan, which will take place in October.
According to the CEO of the entertainment agency, Jiwon Park, ambassadorship is a ‘meaningful opportunity’. Not only that, but the agency will also ‘support the artists with their ambassador activities and development of Busan Metropolitan City and Local pop culture. ‘
Apart from South Korea, there was a slew of cities that had also placed a bid for hosting the World Expo 2030. It included Ukraine, Italy, Rome, Saudi Arabia, Riyadh, and Odesa. Interestingly, Russia had also placed a bid to conduct the event in Moscow, but it decided to withdraw in May. In the upcoming General Assembly of 2023, the final decision concerning the host city will be selected.
This year has been full of surprises when it comes to BTS. Whether it is their BTS vlog series or their non-music-related activities like this one, the septet has never once stopped from reigning in the hearts of the ARMY. However, the biggest shocker came when at the FESTA dinner on June 14, when the group announced that they would be going on a hiatus in order to concentrate on creating their solo projects.
However, BTS later clarified that it would also be moving forward as a group and carrying on the group activities, along with focusing on their individual careers. Since that announcement, J-Hope has been the first member to release the solo album, Jack in the Box, which was released on July 15.
