Originally Kim Nam-joon RM is a multi-hyphenate South Korean record producer, rapper, and songwriter, who is popularly recognized as the leader of the popular boy band, BTS. Speaking of RM’s solo career, he released a mixtape titled “RM,” in 2015, followed by “Mono” in 2018, which became the highest-rated album by a solo Korean singer and ranked number 26 on the Billboard 200 in the United States.
In 2009, RM was stepping into the first door of his music career when he auditioned for Big Deal Records, and although he was eliminated in the second round, fate got him closer to rapper Sleepy who later introduced him to Big Hit Entertainment producer Pdogg. His parents unaware of his daily associations, RM began working beside members Suga and J-Hope, who were all going to be a part of BTS in the future.
Before BTS, RM was involved with several musical projects and even engaged in songwriting assignments with the girl group Glam. His official BTS debut was commemorated with solo tracks, such as the intro for their first EP, “O!RUL8,2?” and the intro for their first studio album “Dark & Wild,” titled “What Am I to You?”
Throughout his career, RM has also branched out of BTS and collaborated with strong musical forces such as Wale, Younha, Warren G, and Lil Nas X, establishing a strong footprint in the global musical scenario.
