Suga is breaking records, once again. But not with his new music, instead with his previous releases. The lead track of his debut solo album D-Day, Haegeum, has recently crossed 100 million views on YouTube.
Released on April 21, 2023, the song has achieved this milestone after almost 2 years of release. BigHit Music, the agency associated with BTS, has also confirmed the news on Sunday.
Haegeum is Suga’s third MV to have surpassed the 100 million mark on YouTube, followed by Agust D and Daechwita. There’s something unique about this hip-hop track that makes it stand out among the other songs released by the BTS member.

Most importantly, Haegeum is famous for the incorporation of the traditional musical instrument of the same name. It also has another meaning in the Korean language, which is “lifting restrictions.”
That’s exactly why this song of Suga explores the theme of ‘freedom’ through its explanatory lyrics and explosive music. The music video also stands out due to its focus on noir, film-like atmosphere, tension-filled elements, and tightly structured storyline.
Haegeum is one of those songs that are both sung and produced by Agust D himself.
The intriguing MV of the song features a clash between two characters: Being and Exister, for liberation, which almost gives it a dramatic twist to watch in the end. And that is why it is able to garner a whopping 100 million views on YouTube after two years, four months, and 23 days of its release.
This is not the first time Haegeum has broken records. Immediately upon its release, Haegeum entered the daily issue of Oricon’s Digital Singles Chart for April 21, 2023, in Japan. It was ranked at no. 3 with a record of over 3,524 sales. It was the seventh most-downloaded song of its release week on the Download Songs Chart of Billboard Japan. On the same chart, the lead single entered the domestic Hot 100 at no. 81. Later, it rose to no. 66 in the following week.
In other news, Suga, along with the rest of the members of BTS, broke another record a few days back with their 2021 hit Butter. For the unversed, the track’s official MV for the group’s 64th Grammy Awards performance also surpassed 100 million views on YouTube.
A week ago, 21st Century Girl, the iconic song from BTS’s 2016 album Wings, also made it back to the global charts again! In fact, it also ranked at No. 2 on the World Digital Songs Sales chart. The reason behind the sudden uprising isn’t known, although the ARMYs have a tendency to divert to one tune at a time, which often turns it into a focus track.
According to Forbes, the track made a record of having spent over seven weeks on the tally throughout its lifetime. Preceding it was Ceremony by Stray Kids, which ranked at the no. 1 position on the chart. Well, the track is leading the chart even now. However, 21st Century Girl is now being replaced by Shake It To The Max this week.
With BTS Movie Weeks starting from September 24, it’s yet to be seen which other songs of the band will hit the charts in the upcoming days.
