Netflix has recently been adding to its sports library – Home Team, Hustle, Bruised, Skater Girl, and many more. The streaming giant is working on building the library even more and in 2020 added a sports documentary to the platform portraying the struggles of cheerleading.

Cheer is a Netflix original American sports docuseries. Season 1 of the series premiered in January 2020. The documentary follows the nationally rated Navarro College Bulldogs Cheer Team from Corsicana, Texas. They are preparing to compete in the National Cheerleading Championship in Daytona Beach, Florida, under the leadership of coach Monica Aldama.

Cheer Season 2 dropped on Netflix on January 2022 and was highly enjoyed by fans, making way for the question of Cheer Season 3. Here’s everything we know so far.

What happened in Cheer Season 2?

The second season of Cheer followed Navarro’s and Trinity Valley Community College’s cheer squad. They are preparing to compete in the NCA Championships. It documented the various challenges Navarro had to face in the past two years, including COVID forcing them to opt out of the 2020 championships and restart with an almost entirely new team when schools reopen.

Cheer Season 3 Release Date

Netflix hasn’t announced anything regarding the future of Cheer. It’s not even been 3 months since Cheer Season 2 premiered on the platform, so we can still have hope for some good news.

Also given that season 2 itself was a surprise to fans and was announced just weeks before its release, we may expect another surprise in the near future. And if the show does end up renewing for another season, we expect it to release sometime in late 2022 or early 2023 given its timeline.

What will happen in Cheer Season 3?

If we are to have Cheer Season 3, it should pick up from where Season 2 left.  As a result, expect a fresh cast and new competitions. Cheer Season 3 will almost certainly see Navarro College’s return to Daytona Beach in 2022 if the team chooses to compete there again.

The previous season was a huge success with fans, and we expect season three to be equally as enjoyable as the previous installments.

Who can we expect to see in Cheer Season 3?

Season 2 ended with numerous prominent members of Navarro and Trinity Valley debating whether or not to return for a third season. Navarro’s Maddy Brum and Gillian both stated that they would return to seal the victory, while Cassadee Dunlap stated that she was ready to move on from the experience. Jada Wooten of TVCC stated she was ready to hang up her cheering costume, but DeVonte Joseph of the same squad was eager to get back on the mat.

In an interview with Marie Claire, Gabi Butler, not only hinted at the third season but also her return, “Technically I do have one more year [at Navarro].”

“At a junior college you can only do three years; 2021 was my third year. But because of COVID they gave everyone one more year of eligibility…so, yes? I’m not really sure what I’m doing with my life right now but just stay tuned,” she added.
