After Brett arranges for Hawkins to join her and Violet for lunch, knowing that the couple won’t have much time together due to his imminent transfer, all of Unit 51 is called to a structure fire at a movie theater. Some are stuck under the screen, while others are below the storage area. We see that Boden gives everyone one more minute to go since he doesn’t like how it looks. There are still more bodies to be found, and the Squad hasn’t even entered the storage area.

Later as Galloattempts to assist someone, he falls. Violet, who is outside with Brett helping casualties when Kidd phones in the mayday, is concerned. But that pales in comparison to her surprise when, just as they’ve gotten Gallo out and checked on him, things take a terrible, fatal turn. Hawkins witnesses a guy collapsing out a side door, which Violet reports to Boden after watching her boyfriend assist the wounded.

The structure collapses on Hawkins and the victim just as Boden glances over. Violet can only watch as the firefighters race to pull them out and bring them to Hawkins. She rushes up to him and performs CPR. “I can save him,” she sobs as Boden yanks her back. “Please, Chief, let’s try. “Let me try,” she begs as he’s carried away. But it’s too late as Hawkins is dead, much to viewers’ shock and surprise.
