Why did NBC renew Chicago Fire for Season 11?

According to Deadline, “So far this year, the three Chicago dramas have dominated Wednesday nights in total viewers and the Chicago One lineup is poised to give NBC just its second Wednesday season-long win in total viewers in 17 years. All three series rank among television’s top seven most-watched dramas and all three are generating double-digit digital growth this season versus last.” 

In addition to this, “In Live+7 Nielsens, Chicago Med is delivering 11.0 million viewers, Fire is averaging 11.4 million and P.D. is attracting 11.0 million, with a 1.7 rating in adults 18-49 for Med, a 1.9 for Fire and a 2.0 for P.D.” Moreover, following the massive renewals, the three Chicago series will have to negotiate new deals with their casts to meet the criteria and demand for the renewed seasons.

Furthermore, there have been rumors that Casey’s ex-boyfriend, Dawson, may return in Chicago Fire Season 11. However, in a new interview with US Weekly,  Haas thoroughly debunks this theory. Here’s the rest of the quote, “She’s not coming back anytime soon,” co-creator Derek Haas exclusively told Us Weekly ahead of the Chicago Fire season 10 finale. “It felt like they had a really good, you know, they left in a good place when she left the last time. And then Casey’s been a one-woman man since then. So we’re not throwing that wrench.”

Jesse Spencer who plays Captain Matthew Casey has left the series after 10 long years stating the reason as after his character Captain Matthew Casey made the decision to move to Oregon and raise his late closest friend Andy Darden’s young boys, he left the show in October. 

He provided a statement to Deadline, quoting, “It wraps up 10 years for me,” the actor reflected. “I think it was pretty organic that he’s leaving and he’s going for three years but is he? We don’t know. It’s been a long time coming when you know how these compadres have gone through life and death together. Further adding, “It’s hard to say goodbye, you know, see you soon, kind of thing. It was bittersweet but I really enjoyed it and we got some laughs out of it.”

The 11th season of Chicago Fire is expected to have episodes in the range of 16- 24 in the next season.
