When will one of television’s most beloved medical dramas return on NBC? Here is everything we know so far about
Chicago Med Season 9.

The summer streaming season is fully blooming on NBC, and we can’t help but notice that most of the legacy shows, which include the entire One Chicago franchise, are on a break, with their next seasons already greenlit to make an official comeback sometime later. This hiatus has caused many fans to speculate about the potential release date, as we’re sure they are eager to see what new information the creators have in store for the next chapter at Gaffney Chicago Medical Centre!

So, if you’re contemplating the same thing, then we can assure you, beloved reader, that you’re not alone! We at Web News Observer have compiled a list of every relevant detail regarding Chicago Med Season 9 that you should be aware of, especially the ones that may also be revealed in the coming months, to get a headstart! It’s time to mark your calendars and prepare for an unforgettable ride into the heart of one of television’s most beloved medical dramas!

Chicago Med Season 9 Release Date: When will it premiere on NBC?

Right now, we can confirm to the readers that no details about the potential release date have been hinted at by the show creators, as it is way too early to reveal such information, especially when we consider the fact that the ongoing 2023 Writers Guild of America strike has changed the course of the 2023–24 fall schedule! Even though the renewal was confirmed earlier this year along with its sister shows, Chicago PD and Chicago Fire, that doesn’t mean that the show will premiere sooner than you think, especially not in July 2023.

We say this with certainty because many networks have reported holding all scripted content until 2024! The writing for the upcoming season has not started due to the temporary halt in the writer’s room. This update is quite unfortunate when we consider the fact that filming usually begins in the summer season if the network is aiming for its fall release later this year. So, if we look at the current status, one thing is pretty much clear: The network might be considering some crucial changes to its 2023 fall schedule! Hence, there is no way that the network will confirm the dates this summer season.

In conclusion, the next season can eventually be released sometime in 2024. Only if the production doesn’t start by August and the creators decide to postpone the filming until later this year, as the strike is likely not to reach any conclusion in the coming months. Moreover, that’s not the only hurdle on the way for networks because if, for some reason, SAG-AFTRA and AMPTP can’t come to an agreement by the June 30, 2023 deadline, it can also trigger an actor strike, causing more delays!

At least, we can hope that there is still a chance that the only update we get in the coming weeks will be that the network decides to publish the show’s revised release dates in order to avoid further confusion. There are some positive signs to look forward to, which indicate the potential release window of Chicago Med Season 9 is likely to maintain consistency, and it will premiere new episodes every Wednesday night at the same time slot of 8 p.m. EST, preceded by Fire at 9 p.m. EST and followed by P.D. at 10 p.m. EST.

Until any official confirmation, we’ll just have to wait and see!

Chicago Med Season 9 Plot: What to expect in the new season?

Though it is far too early to predict future storylines, the new season is likely to maintain the show’s theme, which follows:

Members of the city’s most highly skilled medical team save lives while navigating their unique interpersonal relationships. The Gaffney Chicago Medical Center’s elite team of dedicated doctors, nurses, and staff face challenges each day as they do what it takes to treat their patients, sometimes in surprisingly inventive ways. As the city’s last line of defense, doctors Charles, Halstead, Marcel, Choi, and Manning; nurses Sexton and Lockwood; and hospital administrator Sharon Goodwin embody the heart of Dick Wolf’s triad of Chicago series.

The plot will also pick up from the 8th season’s finale, “Does One Door Close and Another One Open?” which was directed by Nicole Rubio and written by Diane Frolov & Andrew Schneider. In the episode, the viewers get to see that “Shocking information threatens Jack Dayton’s surgery and the future of OR 2.0; Archer goes rogue to save a patient in need; Maggie questions her future at Med. Later, Will finally leaves Chicago Med and reunites with Natalie Manning.” Moreover, this episode marks the final appearance of Dr. Will Halstead with a special surprise appearance of Natalie Manning.

“I’m pleased to continue my four-decade relationship with Universal Television and NBC,” Wolf said in a statement. “All six shows being picked up again is the ultimate accolade to our incredible casts, producers, and writers. I’d also like to thank our loyal fans who have kept our NBC shows on the air for what will be a cumulative 84 seasons.”

On the other hand, NBC Insider also highlighted that Chicago Med Season 9 would likely pick up the nail-biting ordeal where Chicago Med’s fearless boss Sharon Goodwin is fighting tooth and nail to prevent Jack Dayton (Sasha Roiz) from turning the hospital into a for-profit hospital. This is a possibility to be explored further. We’ll just have to wait to know what happens next. As, One Chicago’s success will help to generate buzz, ratings, and increased viewership, which will be great for the next seasons to explore more plotlines and character arcs.

It’s pretty clear that the next season will likely have more twists and turns on the way, which will keep you glued to the television screens! This electrifying journey into the captivating world of medicine, where every decision can mean the difference between life and death, will fill the next chapter with great experiences that have captured audiences’ hearts since its inception back in 2015!

Earlier, it was confirmed that some of the most known faces have also left the show, which includes Nick Gehlfuss as Dr. Will Halstead, Brian Tee as Ethan Choi, and Asjha Cooper as Vanessa Taylor. There can be many characters who have left the beloved series, so there is a big chance that some new additions or removals from the cast can be announced for the next season, which will be revealed later if it ever happens.

“We understand the emotional connection our audience has with these characters and we can’t wait to bring more of their stories to the forefront next season,” Lisa Katz, the president of scripted programming at NBCUniversal and Streaming, said in a statement. “A huge thank you to Dick and his amazing team who are the masters of producing incredibly compelling television week after week.”

On the other hand, Chicago Med is produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, in association with Wolf Entertainment. The crew also includes Dick Wolf, Diane Frolov, Andrew Schneider, Stephen Hootstein, Derek Haas, Arthur Forney, Matt Olmstead, Michael Brandt, and Peter Jankowski are executive producers.

Chicago Med Season 9 Episodes: How many will be there, and where to stream?

The next season is confirmed to include 22 episodes with a running time of 40 to 44 minutes, which are expected to drop on a weekly basis, which makes it perfect for rolling out the episodes on a proper schedule. Moreover, the official episode title and synopsis have not been revealed. There is no chance the show creators will release such information, which can lead to potential spoilers that won’t be good as the series is still in the pre-production stage.

We would also like to highlight that the episode count can be decreased to 18 episodes if the production is delayed. NBC Chicago also reported that the ongoing strike could also result in seasons being shortened due to the lack of episode scripts and the writer’s room not resuming their work until a proper resolution. “They could be forced to cut seasons short or delay filming altogether,” the outlet added, which will be quite unfortunate but for the best in order to avoid another delay!

All the prior seasons of Chicago Med are currently available on NBC, FuboTV, Hulu Plus, and Peacock. The series is also available to rent or buy on Amazon Instant Video or Vudu, with a vast number of membership plans according to the preferences of the users. Moreover, you can also stream Chicago Med for free IMDb TV, depending on the user’s location. You can also watch Peacock through platforms such as Fire TV, Apple TV Plus, and Roku.
