So, it’s understandable why the fans want to know if the series has been renewed for another season or not. If you have the same question, then you have reached the right spot. In order to prevent any confusion, we have gathered all the information you’ll need to know about this series.
Here is everything we know so far about Chicago Med Season 9.
Chicago Med Season 9 Renewal Status
The show has been officially greenlit for a 9th season by NBC, which was confirmed back in April 2023, along with the sibling series Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D., and it is not surprising that the renewal has been approved for the entire One Chicago franchise as it is one of the major series that has been able to continue to do well with viewers and has also received favorable reviews from critics around the globe after so many years, which is commendable.
At some point in time, all three series, Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago P.D., have been able to reach more than 50 million viewers across NBC and Peacock during the 2022–2023 season, which is an extremely great reception for a major broadcast network like NBC to compete with its competitors like ABC and CBS, among others. Such success helps to generate buzz, ratings, and increased viewership, which eventually becomes a big moneymaker for the company.
So, it’s evident that Chicago Med isn’t going to stop anytime soon!
As the One Chicago creator Dick Wolf is also thrilled about the renewal, quote, “I’m pleased to continue my four-decade relationship with Universal Television and NBC,” Dick Wolf said in a statement of his own. Further adding, “All six shows being picked up again is the ultimate accolade to our incredible casts, producers, and writers. I’d also like to thank our loyal fans who have kept our NBC shows on the air for what will be a cumulative 84 seasons.”
Moreover, the official Twitter handle of the series also confirmed the renewal along with the early pick-up of Dick Wolf’s Law & Order franchise, quoting, “spend more wednesday nights with your favorite squads!”

Chicago Med Season 9 Release Date and Time Slot
The exact premiere date has yet to be acknowledged, as the series was renewed a few weeks ago and the finale episode, “Does One Door Close and Another One Open?” of the 8th season premiered a few hours ago, which is way too early for the network to confirm any details. On the bright side, the release window is also confirmed to be for the 2023–24 broadcast season on the NBC network.
In order to maintain consistency, a similar gap can be expected, as the season has been confirmed to premiere in the fall of 2023! That’s not all, as the ideal release window will be sometime around September 2023, and it is expected to premiere every Wednesday night at the same time slot of 8:00 pm on NBC, just like the previous seasons.
Chicago Med Season 9 Plot
Though it is far too early to predict future storylines, the new season is likely to maintain the show’s core, which elaborates: Members of the city’s most highly skilled medical team save lives while navigating their unique interpersonal relationships. The Gaffney Chicago Medical Center’s elite team of dedicated doctors, nurses, and staff face challenges each day as they do what it takes to treat their patients.
Sometimes in surprisingly inventive ways. As the city’s last line of defense, doctors Charles, Halstead, Marcel, Choi, and Manning; nurses Sexton and Lockwood; and hospital administrator Sharon Goodwin embody the heart of Dick Wolf’s triad of Chicago series. The next season is also expected to pick up from the 8th season’s finale, “Does One Door Close and Another One Open?”
The episode was directed by Nicole Rubio and written by Diane Frolov, and Andrew Schneider. In the episode, viewers got to know that shocking information has threatened Jack Dayton’s surgery and the future of OR 2.0, and Archer goes rogue to save a patient in need. As Maggie questions her future at Med.
On the other hand, NBC Insider also highlighted that Chicago Med Season 9 will likely pick up the nail-biting ordeal where Chicago Med’s fearless boss Sharon Goodwin is fighting tooth and nail to prevent Jack Dayton (Sasha Roiz) from turning the hospital into a for-profit hospital. This is a possibility to be explored further; we’ll just have to wait and see what happens next.
