Spoiler Alert: The following contains important plot points from NBC’s Chicago P.D. Episode 4, “Dónde Vives.”
The life experiences of Chicago P.D. recruit Dante Torres (Benjamin Levy Aguilar) were a secret until tonight. Following Jay Halstead’s (Jesse Lee Soffer) unexpected and devastating departure last week, a thorough introduction to the guy he was ready to take under his wing was the only way to proceed. Just seconds into “Dónde Vives,” the tone in the unit is gloomy when its fearless commander, Hank Voight (Jason Beghe), comes and manages just a half-hearted bow to Torres.
Torres was the focus of the whole October 12th show as he conducted a murder investigation in his boyhood neighborhood. We learned much more about the rookie officer, such as how he routinely assists his neighbors who do not trust the police while he is not on duty. But we also got a taste of his love life, and who can resist a little romance? Everything we discovered about Torres and the girl next door is detailed below.
Who is Mia on Chicago P.D.?
As explained in this exclusive report of NBC Insider, Fans meet Mia (Sharlene Cruz) during Season 10, Episode 4. She’s a childhood friend-turned-love interest for Torres, but she becomes embroiled in the Intelligence Unit’s latest case when her brother, Kiko, is suspected of murder. Torres and the rest of the team suspect that Kiko was involved in the killing of Torres’ neighbor, Provi.
Torres and Mia clearly have a connection, and he uses that to his advantage and tries to get information about her brother, who’s on the run while they’re on a date. But it all goes wrong when Mia ends up beaten by a gang member and discovers that Torres was using her for his investigation. Even though she feels betrayed, she eventually gives up information about Kiko when Torres promises he’ll do his best to keep him safe.
Who is Dante Torres?
Officer Dante Torres is a newly-recruited member of the CPD Intelligence Unit. Torres is portrayed by Benjamin Levy Aguilar. Formerly on loan from the Bureau of Patrol, he was temporarily taken under the wing of Detective Jay Halstead prior to working full-time with Intelligence. Though a diligent policeman, his quiet and rebellious nature hides a troubling past.
Dante Torres grew up in a community neighborhood and was raised by his mother, Catalina. His stepfather, Berto, would beat her on numerous occasions, and though Torres, then 14, called the police six times, nothing was done about it. Frustrated, he would eventually beat his stepfather into a coma, resulting in him serving time in juvenile detention. This event proved to be the catalyst that would motivate him to become a cop.
Will Mia and Torres end up together?
The official synopsis of the episode states, “A shocking murder pulls rookie officer Dante Torres into his own neighborhood. Voight and Atwater help him navigate the case and manage tricky personal dynamics with his wary neighbors. Torres realizes his life my change forever.”
While viewers can see Mia and Torres have chemistry after just one episode, a romance between the two appears exceedingly implausible right now. Despite the fact that Torres was able to apprehend and obtain information from Kiko without incident, Kiko is sentenced to 20 years in jail for felony murder. Torres felt helpless and deafeningly silent.
“Dónde Vives,” demonstrated that the rookie will struggle to balance being a decent officer with safeguarding his neighborhood. Alternatively, as Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) put it, “Working a case in your neighborhood isn’t simple. I’ve been there, and that can really shake you up.”
“Twenty years for not even pulling the trigger? That’s your help?” Mia said to Torres. “Nothing to say, you’re not even gonna tell me I’m wrong? You’re just gonna stay silent?” With those parting words, it’s hard to see a future for the two. But it is Chicago P.D., and there’s always room for the unexpected. If this is a possibility, only time will tell. Until then, the fans need to be patient.
