For those who don’t know what Dead to Me is, the series premiered on Netflix in May 2019 stars two grieving women, Christina Applegate (Jen) and Linda Cardellini (Judy), who connect during therapy sessions.

Will there be a Season 3 of Dead to Me?

This shouldn’t be a question at all. Dead to Me has been renewed again. The series has consistently ranked high on Netflix’s most popular television series lists, and the fans can’t get enough of the plot lines delivered in the previous seasons so far. It was at the top of the US charts on Netflix. So, it is official Dead to Me Season 3 has been renewed and, of course, it had to be given the amount of love it has been showered upon.

But with the good news of the renewal of Dead to Me Season 3 comes the sad part, it will be the finale series.

Fans who believe the show may be falling a victim to cancellation should know that the series was always planned to end early rather than continue for seasons after seasons. In an interview, Liz Feldman stated that she always imagined it would not be “a long, long-running show.” And 3 seasons sound pretty fine, no?

Dead to Me Season 3 Release Date

Dead to Me Season 3 is expected to be released in May 2022. The preparation began soon after its renewal, and it took several months for the scripts to be submitted to Netflix for confirmation.

Liz Feldman posted a tweet on September 18, 2020, to announce the good news among her followers, mentioning that the third season of the series has been approved. 

Christina Applegate did respond to a fan on January 14, saying that the third season will be coming soon, which increased excitement among the fans, and the hype for the series is just growing with each passing day.

Hopefully, the series is finally able to capture the magic just like how it captured the fans’ hearts.  

Timeline of the production status –

  • CBS Studios announced in October 2020 that Season 3 would begin filming in January 2021.
  • Previously stated that production would not begin until December 2020 at the earliest.
  • However, given the uncertainty of the global pandemic, the dates were pushed back yet again.
  • Filming began on May 10, 2021, and was scheduled to end on August 2, 2021.
  • Initially planned that production would be completed by September 2021.
  • Christina Applegate revealed in August 2021 that she’d been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis several months earlier.
  • According to various sources, production “paused temporarily” around that time, and we haven’t heard anything about the show picking up again since.
  • In December 2021, filming resumed 2021 but was canceled for 2021 due to a few cases of COVID-19.
  • There are still three weeks of filming left, which will occur in early 2022.

What to look forward to in Dead to Me Season 3?

Season two of Dead to Me left some major cliffhangers for season three to resolve. The car wreckage at the intersection involving Ben, Jen, and Judy, where the drunk driver was killed. Ben drove away without looking back, and it is still unknown whether Jen and Judy were injured or not.

The letter written by Jen to Judy ended up in Charlie’s hands, and it’s unclear whether he read it or not because it contained some significant truths about his father’s death that he was unaware of. Furthermore, Jen had admitted to Detective Perez about the fallout from Steve’s murder.

Season 2 left fans with many lingering questions and a lot of excitement. However, the creators are currently quiet about revealing the details of the plot.

Who all will return to Dead to Me Season 3?

The show isn’t complete if the dynamic duo of Christina Applegate as Jen and Linda Cardellini as Judy isn’t in it. The fans don’t need to worry about them cause they are here to stay. 

Other cast members who will reprise their respective roles include the police detective Ana Perez (Diana Maria Riva), Jen’s neighbor Karen by Suzy Nakamura, Jen’s children Charlie by Sam McCarthy, and Henry by Luke Roessler, Jens’ former real estate partner Christopher by Max Jenkins. These are some of the many listed cast members set to make their return in the final season. 

Except for James Marsden (Ben Wood) is reported to not come back for the last time. Assuming he desired not to return as it was his time to explore other roles prompted him to make this decision.
