Here is everything you need to know about the current status of Derry Girls Season 3 on Netflix.
Lisa McGee created and wrote Derry Girls, a British teen sitcom that premiered on Channel 4 on January 4, 2018. McGee’s own experiences growing up in Derry, Northern Ireland, in the 1990s, during the final years of the Troubles, inspired the series, which became the channel’s most successful comedy since Father Ted.
We have some updates concerning Derry Girls Season 3. As we looked over the list of new Netflix movies and episodes planned to launch in May 2022, we discovered that one of the fan-favorite feel-good series was absent, indicating that Derry Girls Season 3 will not be coming soon to the digital streaming platform.
Is Derry Girls Season 3 coming to Netflix in May 2022?
As of May 23, 2022, there is no word on when Derry Girls Season 3 will debut on Netflix. The streaming platform has not released any information on the series’ prospective premiere date of the series. Hence, it is apparent that Derry Girls Season 3 will not be returning to your screens at least till the end of this month.
However, since Derry Girls Season 3 had concluded airing so we might see it sooner than later on Netflix. So, we believe the third season could premiere as early as June. If the speculation regarding the third season is true and the Season is set to premiere in June, we’ll most certainly learn more details about it by the end of May 2022. So, we suggest waiting for some time.
Derry Girls Season 3 Netflix Release Date
Derry Girls Season 3 ended on May 18, 2022, with the episode The Agreement. It’s only been a few days since the episode aired and Netflix hasn’t made any announcement on the series’ release date, due to the relatively short period of time. As previously indicated, the platform normally requires time between series to get such developments approved and made available on the streaming platform, which can take some time.
On the other hand, fans of the show may still have the chance of binge-watching it on Netflix, as the network may opt to make the announcement in the coming days if the demand from fans is acknowledged and the show is made available to stream on the platform much sooner. So, we will suggest that the viewers should patiently wait for some time for such updates.
Derry Girls Season 3 Plot
The official description of Derry Girls Season 3 states, “The Derry Girls are back! Lisa McGee’s award-winning, candid comedy returns for the third and final series. While Northern Ireland is growing up, this gang of eejits certainly aren’t any time soon.” The series continues from the concluding episode of Season 2 Episode 6, The President, directed by Michael Lennox and written by Lisa McGee. The episode was released on April 9, 2019 and was viewed by over 2.57 million UK viewers.
The plot of the third season continues from this last episode in which, on November 30, 1995, President Bill Clinton will pay a visit to Derry. The pals have written to Chelsea Clinton and plan to spend the day with her. By listening to a “CIA operative” on CB radio, Joe, Colm, and Jim try to track down the Clintons. Gerry takes them to Burt, County Donegal, where they assume the Clintons are staying, only to find out they were listening to a taxi dispatcher.
Meanwhile, Cathy, James’s egotistical mother, returns to Derry. Later, in Guildhall Square, where the friends have gathered for Clinton’s speech, James informs them that he will be returning to London with his mother the next day, and bids them farewell. Despite his gender and English accent, she informs him that he is a true Derry girl who belongs with them. Regardless, James takes a taxi to the airport with his mother. Orla notices James atop the city walls shouting “I am a Derry girl!” as Clinton is introduced. The girls rush up to James and embrace him when they realize he has opted to stay in Derry.
So, the six-part series will focus on the characters’ relationships as they participate in various adventures together. In the forthcoming episodes, there’s supposed to be a haunted mansion, a psychic encounter, an unusual 1977 class reunion, and a Halloween celebration gone awry. In addition, actor Nicola Coughlan told her followers that Season 3 will feature the “greatest” storylines for the show’s viewers, as she stated, “They’re about to get their GCSE results, and they’re slightly older but not really any wiser. They’re not kids any more, and they have to face some harsh realities of life. It changes them.”
