Fan wars are common in the K-pop world, but this time, it seems like they have gone a bit too far. Reportedly, the fans of BTS and SEVENTEEN are clashing over a social media reaction by Hoshi.
While both K-pop groups have always shown support towards each other, ARMYs and Carats remain divided after Hoshi’s recent stint.
In fact, the incident has left the entire K-pop community debating.
Everything started with Hoshi reportedly liking a viral post. It so happened that someone uploaded an Instagram reel of SEVENTEEN’s 2019 Mnet Asian Music Awards performance.
Here’s what the user wrote in the caption: “Never forget SVT performance [of] ‘Hit’ on 2019 MAMA right after they lost the ‘Best Dance Performance’ Award.”
one thing about BTS, you won't see them bitter towards any kpop group. pic.twitter.com/O0cM9S47Lk

A few netizens were quick to notice that Hoshi had liked the video. This led many to believe that the 29-year-old tried to “shade” BTS, who won the Best Dance Performance Award in the same year after defeating SEVENTEEN.
One simple like that led to a fan war
A simple click on the like button by Hoshi was enough to spark major debate. While the ARMY slammed him for rejecting the group’s efforts and winning, others backed the artist by stating that he was just trying to acknowledge his own group’s performance clip.
A few more even tried to prevent the controversy by pointing out how Hoshi often praises BTS and calls them an inspiration.
However, this didn’t stop the hate comments that flooded social media.
A BTS fan wrote on X, “Hoshi from seventeen liked a reel shading BTS what a f**king snake, and you want us to believe idols aren’t bitter about their success lmao.”
Another user backed Hoshi and wrote, “When did hoshi even shade that group… the post was obviously being shady towards mama and mainly highlighting their amazing performance.”
A third came in support of Hoshi and wrote, “I swear. People these days are so bored that they would create issues out of nothing. Just give it a rest everyone, will you? I’m no Carat, but ik there are plenty of times where 17 showed their admiration and respect towards BTS and have praised them and put them in high regard.”
Going priv won’t do anything I’m sorry but a seventeen member liking a reel shading bts is absolutely insane and y’all know damn well the think pieces there would be if the roles were reversed.. and mind you how is this not enabling fans behavior ? Hoshi is a bitter loser. pic.twitter.com/DdlNkvUGIw

Hoshi’s history with the BTS members
Some SEVENTEEN fans were quick to bring up the positive remarks that Hoshi made about BTS in the past. He has always spoken openly about how the group inspired him, especially during the early years when SEVENTEEN was struggling to make a spot for itself in the K-pop world. In various appearances and exclusive interviews, Hoshi has always credited BTS for paving the way in global K-pop. In fact, as many fans point out, he has only praised their stage presence.
Given this history of admiration, several Carats believe that assuming any ill intent from SEVENTEEN’s Hoshi is quite unfair and inconsistent with his public image and values.
As of now, neither Hoshi nor his agency, PLEDIS Entertainment, has reacted to the situation. However, many still believe his admiration for the BTS members cannot be ignored, and whatever has sprawled right now is nothing but a mistaken interpretation.
Military enlistment on the way
Hoshi is all set to enlist in the mandatory military training on September 16, a day after his fellow band member, Woozi. And this has left fans worried, as many believe he will be posted in Yeoncheon.
In a recent livestream, Woozi casually mentioned that Hoshi will be posted in the high-alert area. Without revealing the name, Woozi said, “I have a friend who will enlist a day after me. He’ll go to Yeoncheon.”
But fans were quick to put the pieces together and assume that it’s none other than Hoshi. Interestingly, Jin was also posted at the same base.
