So, it did not come off as a surprise when D.P. was renewed for a second season.
Here’s a quick rundown of D.P. Season 2.
Is D.P. officially renewed for a second season?
Netflix renewed D.P. for a second season on December 14th, 2021. The announcement came several months after season 1’s premiere through the official Twitter handle of Netflix Korea. The statistical data measuring the success of D.P. suggests that the crime series performed incomparably well, especially in regions outside of Europe and North America, “spending several weeks in the top tens of many Asian countries.” (What’s on Netflix)
In South Korea, the series was ranked in the top ten for straight eight weeks. On the reviews front, the series received commendable ratings, especially an 8.8. on IMDb and an 8.8 on My DramaList.
What can we expect to happen in D.P. Season 2?
*Season 1 Spoiler alert*
Season one ended on a quite tumultuous note with Suk Bong taking Hwang Jang-Soo hostage with a malicious intention to kill him, however, thanks to the intervention of Jun-ho, Suk Bong ceased beating the deserter. Within no time, the militia surrounds Suk-Bong which leaves him with no choice but to shoot himself. However, he aims it at his head, but the gun is fired into his neck which leaves him bleeding out in pain and calling out to his mother.
Season one also did not leave Jun-Oh with any choice of escaping to his mother, to whom he would usually run off in times of despair. However, now that the military knows his mother’s address, the burning question becomes: Where will Jun-Oh run to?
Suk Bong’s death threw light on the culture of bullying and harassment within the South Korean military. Detective Han’s promise of a full investigation into the military police unit, if achieved its fruition, will dig out the dark side of militia that largely involved bullying and harassment.
