Looks like The Rock will restore the heart of Te Fiti soon.

On The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the 51-year-old actor revealed that he will soon start shooting the live adaptation of the Disney 2016 animated film Moana, saying, “My next project that I will be shooting is a live-action version of Moana.” To this, Fallon said, “You’re real-life Maui!” suggesting that Johnson already looked like the shapeshifting Demigod. To this, the actor added, “I am the real-life Maui. Thank you guys very much. I’m so excited about this.”

As per People, the Hercules actor revealed the details of the new project, saying that Thomas Kail would be the director of the new movie, with Lin Manuel-Miranda returning as a songwriter for all the original music featured in the animated version. After this, Johnson, clearly excited about his new journey, took the mic and said, “I cannot wait. Here’s the thing, Jimmy, listen,” before breaking into song, with Fallon joining him in the chorus, saying, “You’re Welcome.”

The first time revelation for the upcoming project was announced by ‘The Rock’ himself on Instagram in April, where he captioned, “Deeply humbled to announce we’re bringing the beautiful story of MOANA to the live-action big screen!” He continued in the post caption, “This story is my culture, and this story is emblematic of our people’s grace, mana, and warrior strength,” he added, “I wear our culture proudly on my skin and in my soul, and this once in a lifetime opportunity to reunite with MAUI, inspired by the spirit of my late grandfather, High Chief Peter Maivia, is one that runs very deep for me.”

He also added, “We’re honored to partner with @DisneyStudios to tell our story through the realm of music and dance, which at the core is who we are as Polynesian people,” concluding the announcement with, “You’re Welcome.” After this, he released an adorable video with his daughters Tiana, 5, and Jasmine, 7, on a Hawaiian beach to announce the project, where Johnson promised the return of the titular Disney princess plus “Gramma Tala, the music, the dance, Te Fiti, Pua the pig, the village” and “the beautiful, powerful ocean.”

People also reported that the movie will be released in theatres on June 27, 2025. In an Instagram post in June, he quoted Moana saying, “Sometimes our strengths lie beneath the surface. Far beneath in some cases,” adding, “It’s my privilege to share our legends, songs, and dance of our Polynesian culture with all of you and your families. Love & mana.”
