Emma Stone has learned her lesson.

Stone recently spoke to Variety alongside Poor Things director Yorgos Lanthimos. When asked why she referred to Taylor Swift as an “a–hole” backstage at the 2024 Golden Globes in January, the 35-year-old actress said she had learned her lesson after the incalculable backlash from angry Swifties.

The La La Land actress shared with the outlet, “I definitely won’t make a joke like that again… because I saw headlines that really pulled it out of context,” She then pointed at herself and said, “What a dope.” At the Golden Globes 2024 in January, when Stone received her award for Best Film Actress in a Comedy or Musical for Poor Things, Swift erratically clapped and cheered for her friend in the audience.

Backstage, Stone joked with the reporters about the pop star’s reaction saying, “What an a–hole,” adding, “I’ve known her for almost 20 years. I was very happy she was there and she was also nominated tonight, which was wonderful. And yes, what an a–hole.” Swift was present at the ceremony since her Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour concert film was up for a Golden Globe, which ended up being accoladed to Barbie.

Swift and Stone’s solid friendship dates back to 2008 when they met at the Young Hollywood Awards, Following that, the two have been present for each other along every way, including the time when the 14-time Grammy winner supported the actress during the Poor Things premiere in 2023 New York. While the Crazy, Stupid Love actress seldom spoke of their friendship, she spoke to Vanity Fair in June of 2023, sharing, “I was lucky ’cause we’ve been friends for a really long time. I’ve known her since we were 17 and 18, so she hooked me up, which was very nice ’cause I know those tickets are impossible to get,” adding that Swift is “a wonderful friend.”
