The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards had no shortage of headline-making moments — right from Hannah Einbinder’s fiery “f*ck ICE and free Palestine” declaration to Tramell Tillman’s history-making win as the first Black man to take home Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, everything was an eye-stealer!

Yet, the real story of the night stretched beyond what was visible to the viewers on screen. Away from the stage lights and acceptance speeches, the off-camera drama, candid interactions, and unscripted surprises gave the ceremony its true character.

Here are some of the moments that stole the show and made a big impact:

Sterling K. Brown showed remarkable spirit despite attending the ceremony with an Achilles injury. Gliding through the night on a scooter, he was positioned in the second row, where a steady stream of celebrities stopped by to offer hugs, handshakes, and well-wishes. His resilience made him one of the night’s quiet standouts.

The service dog everyone adored

Among the glittering guests, the biggest celebrity might have been a four-legged one. A service dog accompanying an attendee became the center of attention in the lobby. Everyone from household names to behind-the-scenes power players stopped to say hello, proving even TV’s brightest stars couldn’t resist the canine charm.

Bowen Yang’s heartfelt reunion

SNL’s Bowen Yang also had a touching moment in the theater. Fresh from his appearance in Nate Bargatze’s opening sketch, he rushed to greet Somebody Somewhere’s Jeff Hiller. The two embraced warmly, just minutes before Hiller would go on to win his very first Emmy Award.

Star sightings at the concession stand

The lobby of the Peacock Theater turned into its own scene between awards. The concession stand became a hotspot, where stars like Taika Waititi and Rita Ora, The Bear’s Liza Colón-Zayas and her husband David Zayas, and Abby Elliott were spotted grabbing snacks and drinks. Jason Isaacs and Sam Rockwell found themselves chatting with drag queens eager to meet The White Lotus cast members, while Aimee Lou Wood paused for photos as she held onto her drink.

Colbert brings the house down

Stephen Colbert owned the room long before he collected an award. When he stepped on stage to present Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, the audience erupted into a 30-second standing ovation, chanting “Stephen! Stephen!” with the energy of a live taping of The Late Show. Later in the evening, when Colbert returned to the stage to accept his win for Outstanding Talk Series, the cheers and chants only grew louder, confirming he was the unofficial star of the night.
