Extraordinary Attorney Woo has risen to become one of the biggest dramas of 2022.
The drama earned fans because of its heart-touching plot and grew to be a K-drama that has given us something priceless that is difficult to let go of. While being very distinct from the current trends, it is nevertheless somewhat comparable. Because it was a legal drama, there was sure to be a lot of competition when the show debuted in the same month as other legal dramas that were shattering viewing records. Extraordinary Attorney Woo, on the other hand, abandoned the grim legal dramas and concentrated on providing us with a calming experience through its narrative.
Fans were a little upset because the upcoming week will be Extraordinary Attorney Woo’s last week, as the show airs its final two episodes, but to everyone’s surprise, the journey doesn’t seem to end there.
On August 17, Lee Sang-baek, CEO of ASTORY confirmed that Extraordinary Attorney Woo is renewed for a second season and that they will be starting with the production soon. Though starting this early, he also revealed the drama won’t air until 2024.
“Thanks to the support of many people, we will produce Season 2 of Extraordinary Attorney Woo. The goal is to air Season 2 in 2024. It is not easy to coordinate the schedules of the cast and production team, so we will have to go through a lot of discussion,” he said, as reported by Soompi.
Lee also mentioned that their aim is to continue with the primary cast, but changes are bound to happen given the sudden Season 2 announcement and the target time to air. “As long as there are no unexpected changes, the goal is to maintain more than 90 percent of the same members as now. For this reason, it will take a considerable amount of time to coordinate, but the plan to produce Season 2 has not changed.”
As it was broadcast on a lesser-known channel ENA, and dealt with the unusual topic of the autistic spectrum, it first drew little interest. However, by bringing out a number of concerns that existed in Korean society, the show eventually got well-deserved attention. The show’s primary focus is on lawyer Woo who deals with autism, but it also talks about issues like genuine experiences of women, small business entrepreneurs, sexual minorities, and North Korean defectors.
According to Nielsen Korea, the ratings peaked at 11% in the seventh episode after rising from 0.9% on June 29. With a special appearance by actor Koo Kyo Hwan in the ninth episode, it set a new record for highest viewership by 15.8%.
Fans are not only loving seeing Park Eun-bin in the lead role they are also showing their appreciation for the other cast members, which include Ha Yoon-kyung, who portrays her friend, and Joo Hyun-young, who plays her supportive boss, as well as Kang Tae-oh, who plays the supporting love interest.
The drama reportedly reached the Top 10 on a daily global chart for TV programs on Netflix, according to FlixPatrol. It has reached the top of the daily chart at least once in eight different nations since its release, including Japan, Vietnam, and Indonesia. Due to the drama’s success around the world, the OTT platform has announced that it would be released in Europe and South America with subtitles in 31 additional languages.
On July 14, JTBC News also revealed that as a result of its popularity, Extraordinary Attorney Woo had received remake offers, including one from the United States. An ASTORY spokesman responded to this claim by stating, “We have received a proposal for a remake from the United States, and the production company is currently reviewing the offer.”
Extraordinary Attorney Woo seems to have a very bright future. Stay tuned for more updates.
