The network has officially confirmed that the series will return this year by disclosing that FBI Season 5 will be premiering new episodes on Tuesday, September 20, 2022. FBI Season 5 will premiere at 8 p.m (ET) time slot, followed by FBI: International Season 2 in the 9 p.m  (ET) time slot, and conclude with FBI: Most Wanted Season 4 at 10 p.m  (ET) time slot.

FBI Season 5 Plot and Episodes

The fifth season’s plotlines are unknown, but fans have assumed they will continue the Season 4 storyline. Some viewers worry that the plot may have a loophole as a result of the cancellation of episode 22, but this is not a serious concern at this time because the show’s creators will undoubtedly address it in the following season because the canceled episode is listed as the third episode of the upcoming season below. 

The exact number of the episodes is not disclosed as of September 17, 2022. But it is expected that the season will be consistent with the prior season and have at least 21 to 22 episodes with an average runtime of 44 to 45 minutes. The titles of the first three episodes with synopses were revealed by the network, which gives insight into the plot, which is as follows: 

S5E1: Hero’s Journey – September 20, 2022

According to the official synopsis, “The team pivots when their sting operation to secure a massive bomb from an illegal broker leads them to discover that the device is already in the wrong hands; Jubal’s promise to be present at his son’s birthday party is put to the test.” 

S5E2: Love Is Blind – September 27, 2022

According to the official synopsis, “When an officer is shot dead at a pawn shop along with the store’s owner, the team tries to figure out why a young, recent Ivy League dropout is tied to the crime.” 

S5E3: Prodigal Son – October 4, 2022

This episode was pulled from its planned airing on May 24, 2022, due to the Robb Elementary School shooting that occurred the same day that the episode was supposed to air. According to the official synopsis, “First-class agents bring all of their talents, intellect, and technical expertise to tenaciously investigate cases of tremendous magnitude, including terrorism, organized crime, and counterintelligence, to keep New York — and the country — safe.”

On April 20, 2022, Shantel VanSanten would portray Special Agent Nina Chase in a recurring role for both seasons, while Peregrym went inactive for her maternity leave. The series is produced by Wolf Entertainment, CBS Studios, and Universal Television, with Dick Wolf, Arthur W. Forney, Peter Jankowski, and Turk serving as executive producers.
