There are many queries relating to its current status, especially since the first season ended with a major cliffhanger with Bode’s freedom on the line at his parole hearing, leaving the fans questioning, “Whether Season 2 is coming on CBS in October 2023 or not?”
So, it makes sense why the fans are eagerly awaiting the next chapter of Cal Fire by speculating about when the highly anticipated Season 2 premieres! So, for your consideration, we have covered all the details about the upcoming chapter, which promises to have a lot in store. Continue reading to find out more about CBS’s Fire Country Season 2.
Fire Country Season 2 Release Date: When will it premiere?
There is no doubt that the much-awaited second season of the action crime series is officially on the way! The series was renewed for a second season right after the success of the first season, as it became one of the most-viewed television series on CBS with just one season. Hence, the early renewal was a no-brainer move by the network in order to meet the demands of the fans.
But here’s the catch, which is quite unfortunate as the scheduled release window of the series’ official return, which was initially intended to be around the fall of 2023, has sadly changed.
One of the main reasons for such changes in the fall schedule is the ongoing dual strikes, out of which the WGA strike has officially concluded, but unfortunately, the SAG-AFTRA strike is still ongoing. The parties involved are still negotiating the deals, and it doesn’t seem to reach an agreement anytime soon, as the meeting between SAG-AFTRA and the AMPTP will resume on October 24, 2023.
Due to this, the actors won’t be back to commence production even if the network wants to release new episodes by the end of this year. As a result, Fire Country Season 2 is no way close to being released or even being a part of CBS’s 2023–24 fall broadcast schedule in October 2023!
In simple words, one thing is clear: CBS has skipped the entirety of the 2023–24 fall schedule for Fire Country Season 2, and in order to avoid further delays, they have postponed the release window to be set sometime around early 2024 (maybe the first quarter of 2023, starting from January to March). Just like other networks, all the scripted series are rescheduled until next year, and the remaining schedule is filled with non-scripted shows, which includes reruns and reality shows to fill the empty slots.
For the time being, check out the new revised fall schedule, which includes the following shows:

Fire Country Season 2 Plot: What to expect from the new season?
The new season will be true to its premise, which follows: “Bad choices don’t make a bad man. At least that’s what Bode Donova’s been told. Midway through a five-year prison stretch, he’s been trying to convince himself of it, too. He gets the chance to prove it, signing on to an unconventional prison-release program: in exchange for reduced sentences, convicts are paired with firefighters battling Northern California wildfires. The heat is turned up when Bode’s assigned to the program in his rural hometown, the place where all his troubles began.”
“I’m hoping to explore what happens when a codependent person who wants to save other people is saved by somebody else. So in the best-case scenario, seeing someone care for me would make me want to learn how to care for myself, but that’s not really how it happens. Usually, you’re like, ‘Oh, I have to go find someone that’s going to care for me.’ So whether that’s Luke or someone else, it’s just going to be interesting if she can’t put all of her time into saving her son or sort of in a way keeping her marriage afloat.” said Diane Farr (Sharon Leone) to TVInsider.
Without any major spoilers, we are certain that the next season will pick up from the final episode, “I Know It Feels Impossible,” which was watched by 5.32 million US viewers. The episode was directed by Dermott Downs and written by Tia Napolitano. The following synopsis of the episode states, “The station 42 and third rock crews face a daring rescue when a massive mudslide tears through Edgewater. Meanwhile, Bode’s (Max Theriot) freedom is on the line at his parole hearing.” Hence, there are still many unresolved plotlines that will be addressed in the next season!
Fire Country Season 2 Cast: Who will be joining the new season?
The main cast members who are expected to reprise their roles are as follows:
Max Thieriot as Bode Donovan (aka Bode Leone), Kevin Alejandro as Manny Perez, Jordan Calloway as Jake Crawford, Stephanie Arcila as Gabriela Perez, Jules Latimer as Eve Edwards, Diane Farr as Sharon Leone, and Billy Burke as Vince Leone. Other actors such as W. Tré Davis as Freddy Mills and Michael Trucco as Luke Leone are likely to make recurring appearances in Season 2, further adding depth and intrigue to the series. Additionally, it was also reported that Zach Tinker had joined the cast in an undisclosed capacity.
Moreover, back in March 2023, it was announced that Rebecca Mader and Kanoa Goo would be cast in recurring roles.
Mader’s character, Faye, will also play a pivotal part in the storyline, with her serving as the leader of a private concierge firefighting company and developing both a professional and personal connection with Manny. Kanoa Goo will bring his talents to Fire Country as Kyle, an extremely fit swimmer who arrives to participate in a swim clinic. Kyle shares a familiar acquaintance with Gabriela and seems to take an interest in becoming Bode’s new romantic rival. While Gabriela sees Kyle as a trusted friend, his actions suggest that he might be attempting to win her heart.
In addition to this, the series is produced by CBS Studios and Universal Television, with Thieriot, Tony Phelan, and Joan Rater serving as executive producers, among other crew members.
Fire Country Season 2 Frequently Asked Questions
How many episodes will be there?
Initially, the next season was anticipated to include at least 22 episodes, as it was meant to be consistent with its predecessor. But now the official episode count may vary owing to the delay caused by the dual Hollywood strikes, which may have prompted the makers of the show to slash the number of episodes by creating a shorter season with 15 to 18 episodes so that the season may air on the allotted schedule.
Is there any new trailer available?
The network hasn’t released any new promos for the second season as filming hasn’t yet commenced, leaving a lot of time for the official marketing to begin, which usually begins a month or two before the premiere.
We’ll just have to wait and see what the next few months have in store for us in relation to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, as everything concerning the filming status is also neither here nor there! Due to this, we are certain that no new promos will be released anytime soon.
What is the production status?
The filming of the new season has been put on hold because of the dual strikes, which include the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes! So, once the actor’s strikes also get resolved, like the writer’s strike, it’s only then that the practice will resume for the next season with the submission of scripts for new episodes to premiere by early 2024.
Moreover, Diane Farr also spoke about the unpredictability of filming Season 2, quote, “We were supposed to be back at work in two weeks. It would be written and done now,” told The Messenger. She added that the strike could also impact the episode count, “We were supposed to go back and do 22 [episodes], which would take us through the whole season, but when we go back later, they won’t air new stuff in the summer because everybody’s vacationing. We may only get 18 episodes of Fire Country or 12.”
