Firefly Lane Season 2 Part 2: What to expect?

So far, in Season 2, we have found out exactly what could potentially end that decades-long friendship. And thanks to the new trailer, we know we’ll also see Tully taking her voice back after quitting her eponymous talk show, Kate and her ex-husband Johnny weathering his accident in Iraq, and Tully starting her career over from scratch with a quest to find out more about the father she never met.

In the flashback storylines, we see Kate and Johnny fall in love, Tully having a fling with a promising sportscaster in the newsroom, and teenage Tully and Kate weathering their first long-term separation when Tully’s mom, Cloud, is arrested for dealing drugs. Moreover, the first nine episodes of Season 2 explore Tully and Kate’s 30-year friendship as they travel from rural Washington to one-sided TV stardom.

There are highs and lows, such as a vehicle accident that destroys friendships. But despite everything, the two continue to be drawn to one another, even if they can go for extended periods of time without ever speaking. Hence, Netflix Tudum confirmed that in the second half of Season 2, Kate will be forced to find out as she begins breast cancer treatment without her lifelong best friend by her side.

After a close-call vehicle accident that ended their love as they knew it, the two were still not communicating at the end of the first half of the season. Tully, though, is never far from her mind, as we can see in the first few minutes of the second batch of episodes, which you can see above. In reality, she is the focus of Kate’s daydreams, which begin with a flashback to the girls’ early years set to the awesome 1970s song “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper” by Blue Öyster Cult.

Moreover, Friedman explains, “Kate is missing Tully and she’s going through the hardest thing she’s ever gone through in her life and she doesn’t have her best friend and soulmate with her. It’s really hard.”

Also adding, “She’s usually a caretaker. To be the person who’s being taken care of, it’s very uncomfortable for her. The cancer puts a spotlight on her in a way that she’s not used to and it’s uncomfortable. She obviously loves her family and she loves that they’re taking care of her, but really she’s still missing Tully. It’s a missing piece for her in her life.”

The official trailer 2:16 minutes starts with Tully stating that she hasn’t felt the same since she “lost her best friend.” She swiftly emphasizes that Kate hasn’t died and is “actually probably great,” only that they’ve “stopped speaking.” It also gives a brief insight with a tagline, stating, “For Kate and Tully, no obstacle is too big when it comes to their lifelong friendship. But is there one mistake that could tear them apart forever?”
