“Hey, Upper East siders, Gossip Girl here!”
Ever since Gossip Girl was initially released in 2007, it has created a sensation in the world of drama, fashion, and obviously, gossip. The reboot of Gossip Girl owes its sole existence to this sensation that it intends to recreate in 2021. Two of the Gossip Girl reboot seasons have already been released with the second one premiering recently in December. However, if you have watched the brand-new second season already, you must be dying with anticipation with some news about the third season. Well, as of now Season 3 of Gossip Girl is a mystery to all of us.
The second season of Gossip Girl focuses on the second semester of the junior year students of Constance Billard-St. Jude. The plot revolves around the battle between the students to acquire the queen bee position, an affair with a married man, and an appearance to make at the Met Gala. What a normal day at a normal high school! So relatable, right?
Here’s everything we know so far about Gossip Girl reboot season 3.
Has Gossip Girl been renewed for a season 3?
At the time of writing this article, HBO Max has not announced the renewal of the show for the third season. However, according to Cosmopolitan, “the showrunner for the series is planning on one anyway.” In a conversation with PopSugar, Joshua Safran, the creator and showrunner of the Gossip Girl reboot mentioned the finale of season 2 which is tantamount to a season 3 premiere. He said:
“Well, I will say that in the tradition of Gossip Girl in the past, season 2 resolves its storylines at a certain point in the finale, and then when you think it’s over…basically, the season premiere of season 3 happens at the end of season 2,” Safran explained. “It’s not just 5 minutes, it’s like a 25-minute season premiere. A lot of stuff happens, more than I think has ever happened in any Gossip Girl episode, to the point where once you watch the finale, you’ll be like, Oh, I see. There’s season 3 right there.”
What can we expect to happen in Gossip Girl reboot Season 3?
If Gossip Girl reboot season 3 is bound to happen, we can tell one thing for certain: it will take place in the first semester of the senior year. In a conversation with Harper’s Bazaar, concerning the continuity of the show, he said:
“I definitely would love to keep the show going…I engineered it so that every season is a semester so that we didn’t get into the problem the first show got into, which was by season 3, they had to go to college. Which, at the time, I think was the right decision. When you look back, then, of course, you could have stayed at high school longer. If every season is a semester and they’re going to be juniors now, they would go to college in season 5.”
When is Gossip Girl reboot season 3 expected to premiere on HBO Max?
Considering the schedules at which the previous seasons of Gossip Girl were released, the third season is expected to premiere in late 2023. The first season premiered in two parts, with the first half released in July 2021 and the second in November 2021. It was followed by the second season that recently premiered in December 2022.
However, Gossip Girl hasn’t been renewed as of yet. The second season was renewed two months after the show premiered in September 2021. If a third season is under renewal, you can expect it sometime around February 2023.
