Grey’s Anatomy also tied for the fifth-highest drama on ABC this season among adults 18-49 and continues to place as the network’s No. 1 entertainment series in that demographic. With a renewal for a historic 20th season, Grey’s Anatomy will continue to make TV history and extend its title as the longest-running primetime medical drama. The news of the season renewal comes after Kim Raver told Entertainment Tonight, “let’s keep on going” and that “we would all love season 20.”

“There feels something very momentous about season 20,” she added. Raver also said she doesn’t believe it’s time yet for Grey’s to close up shop: “I don’t feel that way. I just feel like there’s [something] inherently in Grey’s Anatomy and the amazing way to tell human stories and I feel like that just can keep going. We have all these new, young interns and there are so many stories to be told with them and I love them in contrast with the attendings.” Further adding, “I think its longevity can keep going because the stories are ever-evolving,” she said.

After the big sendoff episode for Ellen Pompeo’s Meredith Grey in the midseason premiere, she will be returning for the Season 19 finale. However, she might turn up on the show in the upcoming season. As Pompeo continues to serve as an executive producer and contributes the voiceover at the beginning and end of every show.

Other long-running cast members whose contracts are up this season include Kevin McKidd, Kim Raver, Camilla Luddington, and Caterina Scorsone. Hence, the producing studio ABC Signature would have to make new deals with any of them to come back. The five new main characters played by Harry Shum Jr., Adelaide Kane, Alexis Floyd, Niko Terho, and Midori Francis have gotten positive reviews, and it is anticipated that they will return.
