Yoga is the divine therapy that connects and establishes harmony among the mind, body, and soul. It has the power to cure diseases and ailments. While there are other ways to relieve menstrual pain, yoga can be one of the most effective ones. Some specific yoga postures can bring relief during bad days. Along with pain relief, yoga can also help in curing irregular periods and other menstrual disorders.

A few yoga poses are listed below that may help in curing period cramps. But, make sure that they cater to your body’s comfort.

Baddha Konasana

This is also called the butterfly pose. Both the legs are folded like the wings of a butterfly with the feet touching each other. This helps in easing the heaviness of the lower body. This helps in muscle relaxation. If the pose feels difficult, try sitting on a folded blanket for comfort.

It is also known as the head to knee pose. To practice this, straighten your right leg forward and place the bottom of your left foot on the inner right thigh. Center your weight over the right leg and fold forward. To switch to the left leg, come back to the Baddha Konasana and start the pose with the left leg. This way, both the legs get relaxation and stretching.

Upavistha Konasana

Known as seated straddle, this pose is done by opening both the legs widely. This pose helps in the relaxation of the thigh muscles. It also lengthens the spine of the body. Practicing yoga during menstruation can be very beneficial, but one must always listen to the body. Do not put your body into a state of discomfort, as it can adversely affect the body bringing symptoms like an increase in pain.

Paschimottanasana

This pose can help you in stretching your spine, hence releasing pain. It is a seated forward bend pose. Bring both legs forward in a straight position. Now, bend towards the front slowly like an inverted bowl. During this pain, if you feel pain in your abdominal area, you can avoid it.

This asana is like a bridge pose. It helps in relieving back pain during menstruation. Period cramps often bring back pain. This simple and quick pose can help you out. For this pose, you need to lie down on your back. Then, lift your hips by putting pressure on your feet. With this yoga pose, your back will get into a pain-relieving position.

Supta Baddha Konasana

This pose is also known as the Goddess pose. If seen properly, it is a reclined pose of the butterfly or Baddha Konasana. Bring the bottom part of your right and left feet together. Stay in a reclined position. This can help you in attaining a position of relaxation while ending a yoga session.

These yoga poses can help you in relieving your menstrual pain and bring relief to your body parts like the back, hip, and lower abdominal area. Apart from these, there are some more poses that can help in regulating your menstrual cycle and bring them to a regular pace. Some of these poses are Dhanurasana, Ustrasana, Bhujangasana, Malasana and Baddha Konasana.

Performing these yoga poses on a daily basis can help you stabilize your period cycle. With this, one can cure irregular periods, painful days, and more problems related to menstruation.
