The SAG-AFTRA strike has everyone at pause, and maybe even the shoot of some of the most-awaited series and movies. Here’s what you need to know about House of the Dragon season 2 and the strike’s impact on the same.
George R.R. Martin’s serve with one of his classics, Game of Thrones, came with a prequel of the incidents that took place in the show. House of Dragons came with a plot that shows the incidents that took place way before what happened in the Game of Thrones, except here the characters belong to House Targaryen, and all of them are fighting for power and the Iron Throne.
The first season of this HBO series premiered on August 21, 2022, and it had a heart-stopping ending with an unexpected death that left the fans wanting for just another episode immediately. However, the shoot for the season is still ongoing and is likely to release in 2024.
On the other side, the Screen Actors Guild and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) had proposed a strike on July 13, 2023, for better payment, and job security while also drawing attention to the disparities in the film and television industry, with all the buzz in Hollywood put a halt. It is the first time in over 60 years that both writers and actors have gone on strike at the same time.
Does that mean House of the Dragon season 2’s shoot is affected?
It has to do absolutely nothing with House of the Dragon season 2. The actors in House of the Dragons are all British and have signed a contract that is governed by the UK actors union Equity UK. Equity had claimed to support SAG-AFTRA with all the lawful measures and with 47,000 members, even before the strike was declared, but the members were not allowed to join the strike with their American counterparts legally.
“A performer joining the strike (or refusing to cross a picket line) in the UK will have no protection against being dismissed or sued for breach of contract by the producer or the engager. Likewise, if Equity encourages anyone to join the strike or not cross a picket line, Equity itself will be acting unlawfully and hence liable for damages or an injunction,” SAG-AFTRA declared.
What can we expect from House of the Dragon season 2?
Season 2 will witness conspiracy within the Red Keep, search for Dragonriders, and so much more! Currently, House of the Dragon is reportedly shooting the Triarchy scenes. Many scenes are expected to be a part of the second season of George R.R. Martin’s 2018 novel Fire & Blood.
So, if everything goes well, we might expect House of the Dragon Season 2 to release sometime in mid-2024.
