In the Dark is a promising show that deserves to be viewed rather than buried, dropped off, or missed. In The Dark is the most anchored in the reality of the network’s complete lineup of dramas, among a plethora of superhero shows, soapy dramas, and otherworldly flare.
The drama has several redeeming qualities, including an intriguing subplot that is truly extremely engaging. The series offers a lot to enjoy for CW viewers. It’s unique while also being familiar, which is difficult to achieve for such a well-defined network.
When a franchise has the potential to deliver more, viewers usually speculate about whether the series will be renewed or discontinued in the middle of the season. So, fans of In the Dark who have been waiting for the next chapter with great enthusiasm, we have some bad news for you.
After seasons of building up with incredible plotlines and characters that viewers have grown to love, the show has been cut short. Unfortunately, The CW has decided to discontinue the drama. This is heartbreaking news for people who appreciated the mystery thriller aspects of the series. Here’s everything we know about the abrupt cancellation of In the Dark Season 5.
Will there be Season 5 of In the Dark?
The CW has officially canceled In the Dark Season 5 after four seasons, as announced on May 13, 2022. As a result, there are no chances that the series will be renewed by the network, as many CW TV series have been reported to be dropped by the network, even if the series had a large fanbase eager to see more seasons of these shows in order to have a tremendous concluding storyline that these beloved characters truly deserved.

Why did CW cancel In the Dark Season 5?
According to a Deadline, the reason for the series’ cancellation was that The CW no longer considered it profitable. With a potential sale and streaming, mergers looming. Moreover, The CW has begun to reduce its workforce dramatically.
On the other hand, In the Dark was never one of the channel’s best-performing linear shows, and the only reason it lasted as long as it did was thanks to Netflix and mainly positive critical acclaim.
The series did have a decent quantity of viewers, however, it received mixed or average reviews from critics. Moreover, it’s unlikely at this time as per the speculation of the fandoms whether In the Dark could be renewed for a fifth season because they are still hopeful that if the upcoming episodes for Season 4 generate enough attention and public demand, the series might be renewed. But this seems a little far-fetched and questionable given the previous seasons’ poor traditional ratings on The CW.
It was also reported that when the partnership between The CW and Netflix expired in 2019, the decisions were being made between the two networks that eventually led to the cancellation of In the Dark. As a result, these are some of the possible reasons for CW’s decision to cancel the show and stop investing in developing more seasons.
What could have been the plot for In the Dark Season 5?
In the Dark Season 4 is set to debut this year on June 6, 2022, on The CW. The episodes are scheduled to air at the 9 pm time slot. The network is filling its Summer 2022 schedule with romances, murder mysteries, and everything in between.

As the series has not released any episodes it is very difficult to predict the expected plot of In the Dark Season 5, which is already canceled. But to get an idea of what the show creators have developed in the plotlines the last episode of Season 3 leads to an ending that is a perfect pick-up point for the fourth season, to begin with. The official synopsis of Season 3 Episode 13 states, “Murphy finally learns the truth about what happened to Jess and it forces her to take a closer look at who she herself has become.”
By the previous seasons, viewers already know that Murphy, a blind and irreverent woman in her thirties, is the protagonist of Season 4. It is seen that Jess, her sympathetic roommate, and Tyson, a teenage drug dealer who rescued her from a vicious attack, are her only two pals.
Where she comes across Tyson’s body while out for a stroll with her guide dog, Pretzel, but flees before the cops arrive. As the plot will unfold, Murphy clings to the only thing that can keep her together if they don’t appear willing to investigate. In her colorful life, she decides to investigate the murder case at “Guiding Hope,” a school run by her parents.
According to this, Season 4 is expected to develop more on this already established premise and be consistent with the tone of the series. Hence, the latest season is speculated to start the story from this very point in time. On the other hand, this is unfortunate as now the viewers won’t be able to get more seasons but the hope is still there as the fourth season is reported to have 13 episodes, similar to previous seasons, with each episode lasting 42 minutes, it might lead to a satisfactory conclusion to the series in order to draw the audience to watch it for the last time.
