Inside Job Season 2: Is it renewed or canceled?

Unfortunately, the answer is no! Netflix has confirmed that the second season of Inside Job is officially canceled.

The news of cancellation after one season is surprising as the overall reception of the season has been favorable. The review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes reported a 79% approval rating with an average rating of 7.20/10, based on 14 critic reviews. Additionally, the series received positive reviews from critics, who praised the animation, voice acting, and social commentary, and it entered Netflix’s weekly Top 10 in many regions, and between October 24 to 31, the series was watched for 21,240,000 hours on Netflix globally.

On January 8, 2023, following an initial report by PopCulture.com, show creator Shion Takeuchi confirmed Netflix had canceled the second season stating, “word of Inside Job being canceled first surfaced in a pair of now-deleted tweets by Chase Mitchell, one of the show’s writers, on Saturday, Jan. 7. “I hate posts like this but our show got canceled on Friday,” Mitchell wrote. “I dunno if I was allowed to say this but honestly that streamer does not care about animation anymore so who gives a shit.” Inside Job fans on social media seem to be similarly frustrated by this revelation.”

Takeuchi also shared the news among followers on Twitter with a heartfelt note, quoting, “I’m sorry guys, it’s true.#insidejob” Further adding,  “I’m heartbroken to confirm that Netflix has decided to cancel Season 2 of Inside Job. Over the years, these characters have become real people to me, and I am devastated not to be able to watch them grow up. Reagan and Brett deserved to get their ending and finally find happiness. And I would have loved to been able to share what was in store with you all.” Takeuchi concluded, “To everyone who watched, thank you for coming along on the ride. Even though I’m sad, it helps to know that there’s people out there who cared just as much about these characters as me.” Take a look at the official post below:

Inside Job: What could have been the plot of season 2?

Inside Job is an adult animated comedy about the shadow government – and the dysfunctional team whose daily grind is committing the world’s conspiracies. From convoluted coverups to secret societies to masked orgy etiquette, navigating office culture at Cognito Inc. can be tricky, especially for anti-social tech genius Reagan Ridley (Caplan). Even in a workplace filled with reptilian shapeshifters and psychic mushrooms, she’s seen as the odd one out for believing the world could be a better place. Reagan thinks she can make a difference, if only she could manage her unhinged, manifesto-writing father and her irresponsible coworkers, to finally snag the promotion she’s been dreaming about.

The series could have expanded from the final episode, “Appleton,” which follows, Reagan is invited to move to Appleton, Wisconsin, where Staedtler intends to erase his memories of the Illuminati. Reagan initially concurs, but as she enters the elevator to retrieve her belongings, the Shadow Board introduces themselves and explains how they came to be, as well as how they created numerous natural disasters to stop overpopulation and the extinction of other species. Reagan is forced to choose between her relationship with Staedtler and keeping her job when they offer her a partnership with them.

She looks for a future where she can have both using the Alpha-Beta system. To her surprise, she eventually sees a future where Staedtler is content and has started a family with someone else after breaking up with her in each of the futures she can see. When Reagan tells Staedtler about his new memories, he omits their relationship because Staedtler has erased his own memories there. Brett, who is in charge of vaporizing anomalies brought on by Project Reboot, grows overly attached to the most recent iteration of Air Bud because it appeared in a documentary and consequently had real basketball talent.

If Air Bud is not put down soon, dogs will develop and eventually supplant humans, according to Alpha-Beta. When Brett fails to defeat the dog at basketball, he has his actor double, whom Rand has transformed into a senator in “Brettwork,” enact a law banning dogs from participating in basketball. Despite this, Air Bud continues to develop. The offer from the Shadow Board is later revealed to be a ruse to divert Reagan from their “Project X37” secret project.
