Ione Skye shares last text exchange with Matthew Perry before his death

The year of 1988.  ‘A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon’ was out. The striking on-screen couple Ione Skye and Matthew Perry successfully enchanted the audience with their performance, with Perry making his film debut alongside her. Thirty-five years later, on the date of Matthew Perry’s untimely demise on 27th October 2023, Skye took to the internet to share her final text exchange with the ‘Friends’ star, Perry, 54.

In the screenshot shared by the 53-year-old actress, Matthew Perry wrote, “Hi! I hope all is well. I was meditating (I meditate now) and ‘In Your Eyes’ started playing. And I instantly thought of how beautiful you are,” referencing the song from her 1989 film ‘Say Anything’. Via People, Skye revealed the date of this text message to be 15th October, the month of his demise.

People further report her reply to his text message acquired via the screenshots shared by Skye herself, “Awe. I love that. Xo.” After that, Matthew carries the conversation forward by writing, “Hope you are healthy and happy.”

Continuing the string of the conversation, Skye wrote, “Yes, I am both, I think! Good to hear from you. I only have nice memories with you.” To this the 17 Again actor replied, “Me too. That one afternoon, I was just sitting in my apartment, and there you were.”(via People)

Perry, 54, was found dead in his apartment hot tub on Saturday, 27 October. People revealed the exclusive statement his family gave upon his demise. “We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of our beloved son and brother,” adding, “Matthew brought so much joy to the world, both as an actor and a friend. You all meant so much to him and we appreciate the tremendous outpouring of love.”

Alongside co-actor Skye, several others, such as Hank Azaria, Shannen Doherty, and Selma Blair, took to the internet to pay tribute to the legendary actor. Azaria, 59, posted a lengthy video on Instagram revering his late “funny friend.” The 59-year-old also shared the screen with Perry on Friends, where he played Phoebe Buffay’s (Lisa Kudrow) love interest David the scientist. People reported his tribute, “Matthew and I became really good friends and we were really more like brothers for a long time,” adding, “We drank a lot together, we laughed a lot together, we were there for each other in the early days of our career.”

Following this heartfelt homage, Doherty, 52, wrote, “Our friendship spanned a long time. A lifetime really,” adding to Perry’s Instagram, “Right now, shock and sadness prevail.” Additionally, People reports the tribute of Blair, 51, who wrote, “All of us loved Matthew Perry, and I did especially. Every day. I loved him unconditionally. And he me. And I’m broken. Broken hearted. Sweet dreams, Matty. Sweet dreams.”

People gathered data from the Los Angeles Fire Department that the first responders arrived at the residence at 4:07 p.m. Saturday. An LAFD spokesperson told PEOPLE, “An adult male patient was deceased prior to first response arrival,” adding,  “The patient was found by a bystander who had repositioned the victim where the head was out of water” in a freestanding jacuzzi. “Firefighters pulled the victim out of the jacuzzi and did a quick medical assessment to find he was deceased.” People reported the 911 audio call reiterated by TMZ as a ‘drowning’ emergency.

Perry’s autopsy report is completed, with the results yet to be revealed to the public. His death at the scene had been ruled off as apparent ‘drowning.’ We await the reports to seal the actual cause of death.
