America is also known as the land of dreams and opportunities. Cities like Washington DC, Brooklyn, and New York are the bustling hubs of entrepreneurs and the working class. But with such elite areas comes an equal amount of crime. The US has one of the highest and most brutal crime rates in the world. While it looks flashy on the outside, it houses immigrants, poverty, unemployment, and sadness within. What if you would be appointed as a precinct in one such place?
Would you want to protect the law or protect yourself from the law? Is your team going to accept you and allow you to fulfill your dream of being useful to the community? Well, if you are a female officer, things just get slightly more difficult due to the lens through which the world and their own department view them. In case you figured out we are talking about East New York and Deputy Inspector Regina Haywood, you are right. But unfortunately, the show has been canceled just after one season. Here is all we know about the cancelation of East New York Season 2.
Why was East New York Season 2 canceled?
There were various reasons for canceling the show CBS Network. They were
- Budget shortage and not enough viewership to get new funds
- Business issues and problems with negotiation
- Requests by CBS to get more rights on streaming beyond the current standards, which makes it exclusive and not allowed to stream elsewhere. It felt unfair to the makers.
For these reasons, our favorite show would not return for another season.
East New York Season 2: Any hopes for renewal?
Yes. If the above issues can be negotiated with, we can have a revoking of cancelation, which has happened with CBS Network in the past as well. But owing to the Writer’s strike and SAG-AFTRA strikes, with no hopes of negotiation, CBS, on a tight budget, might not want to invest in such a stringent project at the moment.
If the makers decide to go with another network, after some adjustments, Hulu, Apple TV+, or ABC Network can acquire the show and make it happen.
Can a spin-off be expected?
Yes. Just like shows like Law and Order or NCIS saw spin-offs, we can see the officers going to a new country, becoming private detectives, or turning into feature-thriller films. But this can only be clarified once the makers have made up their minds.
What was East New York Season 1 all about?
With an IMDb score of 7.3/10 and a rotten tomatoes score of 88%, this show is written by William M Finkelstein and Mike Flynn. It stars Amanda Warren(Regina) in the lead and Olivia(Brandy), Jimmy(Chief John), and Richard Kind(Captain) in supporting roles.
The official synopsis of the show reads, “Deputy Inspector Regina Haywood is the newly promoted boss of the 74th precinct in East New York — a working-class neighborhood on the edge of Brooklyn in the midst of social upheaval and the early seeds of gentrification. With family ties to the area, Haywood is determined to deploy creative methods to protect her beloved community with the help of her officers and detectives. But first, she has the daunting task of getting them on board, as some are skeptical of her promotion, and others resist the changes she is desperate to make. Regina has a vision: she and the squad of the 74th precinct will not only serve their community — they’ll also become part of it.”
