Unfortunately it’s true! Ellen Pompeo is officially leaving “Grey’s Anatomy,” the series lead just said goodbye after reports of her departure from the long-running drama. She made and confirmed the news by an announcement on her social media platforms to her followers on Thursday, quoting, “I am eternally grateful and humbled by the love and support you have all shown me, Meredith GREY and the show for 19 seasons! Through it all….none of it …would have been possible without the best fans in the world. You all are RIDERS and you all have made the ride so fun and ICONIC!! I love you madly and appreciate you right back. This isn’t your first time on the rollercoaster… you know the show must go on and I’ll definitely be back to visit. In addition to this, she has previously hinted about her decision to scale down her role on the series this year wasn’t entirely unexpected – the actress has long been candid about her attempts to convince ABC to end the series. As Pompeo has been one of Grey’s anchors since its premiere in 2005 which is a very long run for a character, quote, “I’ve been trying to focus on convincing everybody that it should end,” she told Insider in December 2021. Further adding, “I feel like I’m the super naive one who keeps saying, ‘But what’s the story going to be, what story are we going to tell?'”

Grey’s Anatomy Season 19: When will the new episode premiere on ABC?

On a weekly basis, the seventh episode, “I’ll Follow the Sun,” is scheduled to release on Thursday, February 23, 2023, after the mid-season break at the same time slot of 9/8c on ABC. The episode is written by Krista Vernoff. The official synopsis of the episode has not been released yet but it is expected to expand from the sixth episode, “Thunderstruck,” which showcased, “On the heels of life-changing news, a thunderstorm hits Grey Sloan; the attending surgeons and interns work together to save an injured reporter and family affected by the storm; a beloved author undergoes a risky surgery.”
