Initially began with airing a single procedural drama series, the FBI’s gradual ascending graph of popularity has now led to the formation of its several offshoots, creating a universe of its kind that’s been on air since 2018. Often hailed as one of the most intriguing procedural drama series, featuring some of the bone-chilling crime dramas on television, FBI’s cult-like fanbase also owes its existence to the critically acclaimed cast which includes Missy Peregrym and Jeremy Sisto.
A mixture of shows like Law & Order and NCIS, the FBI is modeled around a team of special agents in New York whose sole focus is to investigate mind-numbing crime cases with good storytelling on its weekly procedural schedule. When it was renewed for the sixth season, the fans were incredibly excited to see which cases this series covers.
However, it seems that this excitation is soon dying down and is being replaced by a bit of frustration owing to the disruption in the fall schedule.
This disruption was caused by the recently ended WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes which first took flight in May 2023. Owing to these strikes, the production schedules of some of the most popular shows of this official network, including FBI season 6. So, if you’re wondering whether the sixth installment is new tonight, then we hate to confirm, that it is not.
Here’s what we know so far about the same.
FBI Season 6 release date updates
The renewal for FBI season 6 was announced in early 2022 by CBS, while the network was airing its fourth season. It was renewed along with other FBI shows. Consequently, it leads us to assume that sufficient time would have been given for the production even before the strikes took flight. Unfortunately, that’s not the case because as per the latest reports announced by ScreenRant, the production schedule of FBI season 6 is also postponed indefinitely, along with the other shows. As a result, there will be a delay in the season 6 premiere.
The delay caused the fans to fear whether the sixth season would be canceled since the production may or may not have begun on the same. However, that’s not the case right now, at least officially. At the moment, we presume that writing and shooting will resume soon since the strikes have come to an end.
As mentioned elsewhere, the strikes have come to an end after almost five months now. Initially, it was just the WGA strike which kickstarted in May 2023, with the SAG-AFTRA joining hands with the union in July 2023. The unions were protesting for better pay for streaming residuals and the elimination of AI.
We expect FBI season 6 to resume its production schedule soon. However, it’s imperative to note that things will take some time to return to complete normalcy. Once that happens, the episodes will still need to be written and produced, which will take a significant amount of time. Consequently, we expect the first episode to premiere on CBS by late 2024 or early 2025. As of now, NCIS: Sydney is the only crime procedural drama that is confirmed to air as per the original fall schedule of CBS 2023-2024.
