Grey’s Anatomy season 19 recently completed airing its two-part finale and boy, did it evoke waterworks! How can one not cry when there is an unexpected reunion of Ellen Pompeo’s Meredith Grey as Miranda Bailey wins the Catherin Fox Award? How can one not feel giddy when a wedding is hosted by a runaway bride? So much happened in Grey’s Anatomy season 19 and yet there is so much to unfurl in season 20.
Grey’s Anatomy decided to not taint its epithet of the longest-running primetime medical drama in March 2023 when it got renewed for its 20th run. Expect a lot of surprises in the latest season because the renewal itself welcomed the biggest surprise of all time. Meg Martinis was announced to serve as the showrunner for the first time for the upcoming season.
Replacing the longtime showrunner of this medical drama, Krista Vernoff, Meg has sufficient experience of the nitty-gritty involved behind the production of the show, since she has worked with the crew for a plethora of years.
For the longest time, people had been concerned about the recent strikes which had postponed the broadcast television shows indefinitely. But now that the writers’ strike has officially ceased to continue, there is some ray of hope. Does that mean Grey’s Anatomy season 20 is new tonight?
Here’s what we know so far about it.
Grey’s Anatomy season 20: Is it new tonight?
Unfortunately, the latest installment of ABC’s medical drama won’t premiere on its official network anytime soon. Although the months-long writers’ strike finally ended on September 27, 2023, it will take significant time before the cameras start rolling, since writers would have to work on the scripts.
Not only that, but we also need to keep in mind that the actors’ strike is still ongoing. So, even if the writers are successful in completing the scripts after a while, the actors’ strike would need to officially end before the production kickstarts.
Presuming writers begin the work on the scripts as soon as possible, Grey’s Anatomy season 20 is expected to premiere on ABC in the fall of 2024.
Be that as it may, since the current production schedules of the television shows were already disrupted, a lot of people presume that the 20th season of this medical show would feature a condensed number of episodes.
Previously, each season of Grey’s Anatomy was streamed with an episode count of 20-25 on average, including season 19, which had 20 episodes. If the actors’ strike ends soon, we might expect a positive alteration in the episode count.
