Ever since Henry Cavill announced his exit from Superman in DCEU, the fans have been looking forward to knowing what the studio has planned ahead for the superhero’s journey. Earlier, James Gunn took over as DC Studios’ co-CEO with producer Peter Safran in October 2022. However, he has remained vocal about the changes that are being made including the much-talked-about updates on Wonder Woman’s future.
Jacob Elordi is the next Superman?
A few speculations suggested that Euphoria fame Jacob Elordi may be stepping into the role of Superman, DCEU’s most powerful superhero. Talking about James Gunn, he took to social media to clarify the same. The filmmaker further confirmed that the casting for the project has not been finalized. It means Elordi may not replace Henry Cavill. Here is what he wrote on Twitter, “Casting, as is almost always the case with me, will happen after the script is finished or close to finished, and it isn’t. We’ll announce a few things in not too long, but the casting of Superman won’t be one of them.” Talking about Jacob Elordi’s Hollywood career, he was earlier featured in The Kissing Booth franchise and Euphoria. The actor is currently working on an Elvis Presley biopic.

Talking about Henry Cavill, he already released a heartbreaking statement on Instagram to confirm that he is not returning as Superman. Here is what he disclosed after his meeting with James Gunn, “I have just had a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran and it’s sad news, everyone. I will, after all, not be returning as Superman.”
He further said, “After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to their hire, this news isn’t the easiest, but that’s life.” However, looking at James and Peter’s vision in a positive light, the Enola Holmes 2 star also added, “The changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that. James and Peter have a universe to build. I wish them and all involved with the new universe the best of luck, and the happiest of fortunes.”
Here is how Henry Cavill added his concluding lines, “For those who have been by my side through the years…..we can mourn for a bit, but then we must remember…. Superman is still around. Everything he stands for still exists, and the examples he sets for us are still there! My turn to wear the cape has passed, but what Superman stands for never will. It’s been a fun ride with you all, onwards and upwards.”
