Except for the one mainstay, Sam Waterston, as the district attorney Jack McCoy, the rebooted Law & Order featured an entire array of new members in the roles of the NYPD detectives and New York attorneys after its decade-plus hiatus. Despite the new faces, the new seasons follow the conventional tradition for their episodes, with the first half featuring the police solving the case and the second half underscoring the courtroom drama.
\With season 23 on its way, Law & Order has become one of the longest-running dramas on NBC, in line with its spin-off Law & Order SVU, which will now mount on its 25th journey.
Being the nexus of Dick Wolf’s mega-franchise, Law & Order was sealed in 2010 and returned for its 21st season in 2022. Featuring some of the mind-boggling cases that were inspired by real-world headlines, Law & Order never failed to hook the viewers from the first minute to the very last of its airing.
It’s impossible to wait in order to know what will happen to Shaw, Cosgrove, Dixon and the rest of the team. But it seems like Law & Order season 23 might demand you to wait a little bit more owing to the months-long WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, which had disrupted the production schedules of all broadcast television shows, postponing them indefinitely. But now that the WGA strike has officially announced its end, does it mean that Law & Order season 23 is new tonight? Unfortunately, no.
Here’s why.
Law & Order season 23 is not coming in October
As mentioned previously, the months-long WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes had delayed the production schedules of all shows, including Law & Order season 23, which was initially meant to be a part of NBC’s fall 2023 lineup.
Unfortunately, it was postponed. Otherwise, we would have at least watched the premiere of the brand-new season by now. The strike had also affected Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Law & Order: Organized Crime amongst other Dick Wolf shows.
But now that the WGA strike is over, the writers’ rooms are filling, and the production houses are expecting the scripts to be ready as soon as possible. Be that as it may, the negotiations of the actor’s union, SAG-AFTRA, are continued at the moment. Hopefully, if the actors’ strike also officially ends by the end of 2023, we can expect Law & Order season 23 to premiere in the first quarter of 2024.
In regards to the plot, every episode of Law & Order season 23 is a stand-alone episode as far as the crimes and the courtroom drama are concerned. As mentioned previously, each episode is inspired by real-life headlines, which will be followed by a riveting description of the crime and its courtroom enactment on screen.
