Surpassing its mother series, Law & Order: SVU will be back for its 25th Season.
With autumn leaves crunching beneath our boots, will NBC broadcast it tonight?
Or does fate have something else in store for the titular crime thriller series?
Brushing the doubts right off the surface, we have a new update on the supposed arrival of Season 25 of Law & Order: SVU and whether it will grace our screens tonight on NBC. Unfortunately, we hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the Juggernaut series will not make its way onto our screens tonight on NBC. Looks like we have to wait out 2023 altogether to witness the cliffhanging moments of Season 24 unfold in Season 25.
Previously promising a fall 2023 release of Season 25 of Law and Order, ardent viewers were anticipating its arrival right about now. As the first fall breeze sweeps across every year, we cozily prepare our residences for the anticipated arrival of a fresh new roster of a series of praise-invoking series desperate to view what unfolds in the new season. However, this year is different. The fall series calendars are empty or are being frantically altered to match current scenarios, or reruns of the previous seasons are being used to fill up the void in order to give the viewers something to reminisce about.
Why, you ask? Well, right about when a domino effect was initiated and resulted in a series of high-demand shows being revived for newer seasons, the WGA strikes took shape in May 2023. Within a month, SAG AFTRA voiced in with WGA, resulting in a four-month-long double strike that still continues to this day. With no scripts ready for Season 25 of Law & Order: SVU and no actors to film the sequences, NBC, much like its competitors, succumbed to releasing their fall 2023 schedules anyway, predicting that the strikes would dissipate by July.
Hence, NBC made a proclamation amidst the strikes that Season 14 would begin production in July if they wanted to achieve a fall 2023 release as per their calendar. However, the channel was soon made to face the grave error of this decision and alter the schedule after two long months. Other competitor channels also followed.
They updated that NBC will not air the new Season of Law And Order: SVU Season 25 this fall due to the unwavering delays caused by the ongoing strikes. The NBC network succumbed to broadcasting reruns of popular shows on the time slots reserved for new seasons. Law And Order (dramas) will be back for its reruns scheduled on October 5th, Thursday, in the 8-9 pm slot. Check out the fall calendar released by NBC here.
Otherwise, you will have to join the long waiting line for Season 25 to arrive. So when exactly will Season 25 arrive? Here is our prediction.
Law & Order: SVU Season 25 Expected Release Date: Best Case Scenario
While the following prediction that we will make is not set in stone, it will provide the nervous viewers with a degree of solace and a specific time window to look forward to. Mind you. This prediction may alter as new updates on the ongoing strikes surface, so keep an open mind going forward.
Today marks day 3 of back-to-back negotiations with CEOs and the WGA and day 144 for the writers, a meeting that lasted over 10 hours since the writers brought to the table new clauses of the deal. The union sent a letter to the strikers stating: ” We ask as many of you as possible to come out to the picket lines tomorrow.”
The SAG AFTRA with the actors is also in full force, today marking their 71st day striking on the picket lines, not ready to back down. Production houses are slowly emptying out their last pennies, movie hall tickets are recording their all-time low, and Hollywood producers are scratching their heads to meet the demands of the unions to put an end to this. Since we do not have a conclusive date on when these deals will be met, it makes our following prediction of Blue Bloods Season 14 all the more unresolved.
Assuming that the strikes meet their end within October 2023 and Law & Order: SVU Season 25 kicks start into production, we can expect the new Season to arrive somewhere in the mid-2024 timeline, which includes the first quarter of 2024 and includes the months of January, February, March, and April. This is not the road solely taken by NBC for Law and Order: SVU Season 25, but it holds true of every other release that was supposed to debut in the fall of 2023.
Thanks for joining us for an exceptional season finale! #LawAndOrder and #SVU return Thursdays this fall and #OrganizedCrime returns in 2024 only on @nbc and streaming on @peacock. pic.twitter.com/Uu9KldSi0s

As more concrete news blows our way, we will surely update this space.
MollyBurnett Is Exiting The Cast Of Law & Order: SVU Season 25
Molly Burnett, who played Junior Detective Grace Muncy, has been reported to leave the show, Deadline confirms. The abrupt departure of Molly came as a surprise, especially given Kelli Giddish’s controversial Law & Order: SVU exit. Her character, Amanda Rollins, was a long-time member of the squad, and following her midseason farewell, we hoped that no other beloved member would leave the squad. However, the news that Burnett would not be returning to the show is another blow to Law & Order SVU viewers.
The spinoff of Law & Order follows the Manhattan Special Victims Unit of the New York Police Department as they investigate sex crimes and put away criminals under commanding officer Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay). The series renewal was inevitable considering the fact that Law & Order: SVU is one of the most popular dramas on television (via The Hollywood Reporter). Season 25 prints an accolade for the show as being the longest-running American primetime drama in history, having outlasted even the initial run of the original Law & Order.
Since no formal announcements have been made on any new additions to the cast this season, here is a list of cast members for Law & Order: SVU Season 25 who we predict will return to the screen:
- Mariska Hargitay as Captain Olivia Benson
- Kelli Giddish as Senior Detective Amanda Rollins
- Ice-T as Sergeant Odafin ‘Fin” Tutuola
- Peter Scanavino as Assistant District Attorney Dominick “Sonny” Carisi
- Jr.Octavio Pisano as Junior Detective Joe Velasco
What Will Season 25 Of Law & Order: SVU Bring To The Table?
The series will probably pick up where the Law & Order: SVU Season 24 finale, “All Pain Is One Malady,” left off. In the quest for a revenge-for-hire crime ring, the globally sporadic case is taken on by the combined forces of Benson and Stabler. Fin and Bruno help a victim assaulted a second time, and Jet’s plan to hack the dark web backfires and puts the team in danger. In the previous season, Olivia Benson was left with both visible and invisible bruises and feared for her son’s safety again. Season 25 could delve into the aftermath of the storyline, exploring its impact on Benson and the SVU team while they investigate new cases and crimes.
With crime dramas, especially successful ones such as Law and Order: SVU, there are endless possible cases as the crime trajectory keeps evolving throughout the years. In that sense, we can expect Law and Order: SVU Season 25 to exuberate a more modern approach to crime, such as cyber crimes, intellectual property crimes, AI-based crimes, etc. The odds are inexhaustive.
Additionally, you can catch the earlier 24 seasons of the series on NBC’s official website and app for free based on the user’s location: Peacock, Hulu Plus, FuboTV, Sky TV in the UK, Vudu, and Amazon Instant Video.
