With Season 5 of Virgin River out on Netflix, is Lexa Doig’s future sealed in the future of the series?
Or will we only have to settle with the utterance of her name as a lingering shadow?
*Major spoilers for Season 5 ahead! Proceed with caution*
On September 7, we gathered our popcorn and sodas, turned on Netflix, and delved into the mystic town of Virgin River for a new Season 5. It was an engaging, unwavering experience, and most of us binge-watched all eight episodes within the night. So, an intriguing question must have popped up in your heads after reaching the finale: Is Lexa Doig Leaving the Virgin River? From the looks of it, we can arrive at innumerable conclusions, so we have broken it all down for you below.
The series has garnered unwavering support and fan-following since its inception, so much so that the creators revisited their earlier decision to make Season 5 the finale. Now, they have decided to extend it to Season 6! All you Virgin River fans have a lot to look forward to after watching Season 5! Will Virgin River Season 6 reach us soon? Will the current WGA and SAG AFTRA strike situation affect release dates? Has filming for Virgin River Season 6 been delayed? Is there a possible return arc for Lexa Doig?
Season 5 has again done a commendable job, much like its predecessor, Season 4, to leave us in the depths of massive cliffhangers throughout every character in the show. One such unfolded mystery is that of Lexa Doig, whose character in the show has always been quavery since Season 3. So, did we finally say goodbye to Lexa, or will the befuddling ending catapult her into venturing into Virgin River one last time for Season 6? Let’s find out!
Virgin River Season 5 Almost Answered Our Questions
The Season 4 finale left us on the cusp of a massive cliffhanger, which we waited for over a year for Season 5 to answer. So, did Season 5 answer our questions? It did, but it left us with more cliffhangers for Season 6 to explore.
We Finally Know Who Charmaine’s Twins Belong To
Incidentally, Charmaine remains pregnant throughout the entirety of Season 5, making us skeptical of the revelation of the father of the buns cooking in her oven. We learned from the Season 4 finale that Jack (her ex) was actually not the father. So we were intrigued as to who it was. Charmaine’s problematic situation with the men in her life defined her character throughout the four Seasons of Virgin River, and Season 5 was no different. From her husband Todd to emotionally unavailable Jack, Charmaine never cracked the perfect relationship jackpot.
Towards the end of Season 5, we finally get to know that Calvin(Virgin River’s No. 1 Criminal) was the actual father of the twins. Calvin was presumed dead due to a miscalculated boat explosion, but the Season 5 finale revealed that he was alive after all and was ready to be involved with his unborn twins.
Will Charmaine allow Calvin to enter her life and be a father to her twins? Will he cause more trouble for Virgin River? Only Season 6 can tell.
Mel’s Plans Go Splat Mid-Season
An engaged and pregnant Mel is jolly from the beginning of Season 5 with her fiance and baby daddy, Jack and both of them are settled to begin a normal family life. Mid-season, something happens to Mel, and her world is overturned. She loses the baby after a camping trip with Jack, resulting in her second miscarriage, the first being her deceased husband’s baby before she met Jack.
However, by the end of the Season, the couple decides to pick the pieces of their hearts together, buy farmland that belonged to Lily, and start a settled life together, even adopt if need be. This also came after the entire town was grieving over the aftermath of the grave forest fire that set the Virgin River ablaze.
Will their attempt at a settled, secluded life be interrupted by yet another grave tragedy? Or will Mel and Jack get their well-deserved fairy-tale ending?
Another Pregnancy!
Virgin River seems to be a land of fertility because every other woman ends up being pregnant. New to the list is V-town’s new It couple, Lizzie and Denny. But it’s not all unicorns and cotton candy.
Lizzie and Denny finally got together in Season 5 despite Denny’s protests because of his deteriorating condition linked to Huntington’s disease, a nervous system disorder. However, towards the end of Season 5, at the carnival, just as Denny says that he has finally decided to leave Virgin River to attend med school, Lizzie reveals her pregnancy.
This cliffhanger was the worst of them all because we have no clue what can happen next. We can only hope Denny reverses this fatal disease, stays back, and helps Lizzie with their baby. Otherwise, expect the heartbreak of the century in Season 6!
Did Paige Say Her Final Goodbye
Now to the main question at hand: Is Lexa Doig Leaving Virgin River? Let’s see.
Season 5 confronted her situation with her deceased husband Wes, who she pushed down the stairs and ended up dead. She did it as an act of self-defense to save herself and her son Christopher from the clutches of her evil-cop abusive husband, Wes. Preacher, her budding love interest, helped put away the body and helped her escape town. This started the characters ‘ charade to the town. Seasons 3 and 4 saw her narrative drift away from the central theme of the series. However, Season 5 brought her back, helped her face her demons, and gained clarity.
Wes’s evil twin brother Vince (who also shot Jack earlier) came to seek revenge for her brother’s death and ended up having Paige at gunpoint, with Preacher butting in the right moment and saving the day. LAPD officer Mike came to investigate and, without question, arrested Vince, giving Paige and Christopher the much-needed closure from Virgin River. Her budding romance with Preacher was put to an end when she decided to bid adieu and leave her past behind along with the town in the finale of Season 5.
Will Lexa Doig Return As Paige In Season 6 Again?
From a broader perspective, it seems that her character sang its swan song in Season 5 when she left the town behind. However, a massive cliffhanger from Season 5 made us ponder over her possible return again for the next Season. You see, after the incessant forest fire that shook Virgin River to its core, altering the mental and physical health of its dwellers, a body surfaced from the chars.
It was the body of Wes, Paige’s ex-husband, who she killed and whose body Preacher helped put away. It seems like her past resurfaced, which means we could be looking at her potential return in Season 6. *fingers crossed*

Virgin River Season 6: Is It Happening?
For those of you who follow Web News Observer on a daily basis will know that Netflix renewed Virgin River Season 6 ahead of its Season 5 release on May 17th, 2023. As mentioned earlier, due to the astounding success of the series and the crazy reactions of the fans who couldn’t get enough of it, the creators had to revisit their earlier plan of ending the series with Season 5, and instead extend it to include another season.
So, has the filming for Virgin River Season 6 commenced yet? Let’s find out. In other news, Season 5 will be out and running on Netflix with 10 episodes on September 7th, and 2 more episodes on November 30th as a Holiday edition. We cannot wait to find out what Season 5 brings to the table. Only then will it make it easier for us to predict the storyline for Season 6.
Recently, actress Alexandra Breckenridge shared a sad update with her fans on Instagram. The actress confirmed that the sixth season of this Netflix series has been put on hold owing to the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Expressing her frustration at the situation, the actress said that it felt “weird” to sit at her home in Atlanta, Georgia, when she had prepared to be in Vancouver this time. She added, “I’m always homesick when I’m there but now my body feels like it’s supposed to be in Vancouver so it’s very bizarre.”
Virgin River Season 6 Release Date: When Can We Expect Its Arrival?
Unfortunately, it is too soon to speculate on the release dates for Virgin River Season 6 since Season 5 will be coming out next month. However, let us take a look at the current developments around Season 6. Ever since the announcement for a series renewal came out in May, the Writer’s Guild of America broke out in protest over unfair practices of the production houses and inferior protection of rights for the writers. This protest was joined in by the actors guild called SAG AFTRA in July. So, it is safe to say that scriptwriters and actors are currently unavailable to continue to work on their series until and unless their agreements are met by the production houses. It seems like a fair demand since they are the very source of our entertainment, and they deserve basic artistic rights and fair compensation in order for them to work well.
Currently, the strike is entering its fourth month, and there has been negligible development on the negotiation bit. So, seems like the Virgin River fans need to wait a while longer than expected. Amidst a number of scripted series that have halted productions or delayed their schedules, Virgin River Season 6 is one of them. Hence, there is no script as of writing this since the writers are on strike, and following this, it is obvious that filming for Season 6 has also not commenced. However, it is important to know that if the strike situation successfully dissipates within the next two months and negotiation is met, Virgin River Season 6 filming will commence by the end of 2023. Judging by the time taken for filming and post-production, our prediction suggests a late fall release in 2024.
