Despite being established as ABC’s No. 2 drama series, Station 19 will soon bid adieu to its fans. According to Deadline, the upcoming seventh season of the ABC drama will seal the fate of the show. Since the season is early in production, there is sufficient time to solve all the loose ends by the end of the show.
A spinoff of the popular Grey’s Anatomy, Station 19 enjoys a good 95-episode run. The upcoming seventh season reportedly constitutes 10 episodes. As a consequence, the drama will cross the 100th episode mark.
Its frequent crossovers with Grey’s Anatomy and its sound depiction of sensitive topics like systemic racism, for which it recently bagged a Sentinel Award from Hollywood, Health & Society, Station 19 has been one of the most critically acclaimed dramas of ABC.
Per Variety, Station 19 has managed to garner 8.3 million total viewers in season 6 as of April. Not only that, but the outlet also reports that the ratings for the show spiked approximately four times over its initial Live+Same Day ratings in Adults 19-49 throughout its last season.
Season 7 of Station 19 has been a much-anticipated season for the viewers of the show for a plethora of reasons. One of them is, that ever since the show was renewed for the seventh season, a slew of changes have been announced. For instance, the seventh season has new showrunners, including Zoanne Clack and Peter Paige, who are replacing Krista Vernoff.
Deadline states that Clack was the head writer in August 2022 as a result of an upheaval in the series’ writer room, “which exposed long-simmering racial issues on the show.” The time of the show has also been moved from 8 PM to 10 PM on Thursday. It will be preceded by Grey’s Anatomy in contrast to preceding the show earlier.
The outlet alludes to the changes in the dynamic between the two dramas as the cause of the changes in the schedule. Over the course of its seasons, the spinoff became more independent of the plot and characters of its mothership series.
According to Deadline, Craig Erwich, president of Disney Television Group, said, “For seven seasons Station 19 has been a highlight of the ABC lineup thanks to Shonda and Betsy’s incredible vision, beloved characters and compelling storytelling. With Zoanne and Peter at the helm of the upcoming farewell season, we have so much to look forward to, most notably the celebration of the show’s milestone 100th episode.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the seventh and final season of Station 19 will air on ABC on March 14 at 10 P.M.
Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rimes, Betsy Beers, Stacy McKee, and Paris Barclay serve as the executive producers of the show along with Zoanne Clack and Peter Paige. Set in Seattle, the show is modeled around the lives of the men and women at Seattle Fire Station 19. The show stars Jaina Lee Ortiz, Jason George, Grey Damon, Barrett Doss, Alberto Frezza, Jay Hayden, Okieriete Onaodowan, Danielle Savre, Miguel Sandoval, Boris Kodjoe, Stefania Spampinato, Carlos Miranda, Josh Randall, Merle Dandridge, and Pat Healy.
