Grey’s Anatomy will soon enjoy its 20th run; and along with that, its spin-off, Station 19, will enjoy its seventh installment on ABC. The only catch is, that we don’t know when the new seasons of the original and its spin-off respectively premiere on ABC.

Modeled around the bustling life of Seattle fire station, Station 19’s exponential popularity has gained the show an ardent fanbase who would not fail to glue themselves to the sofa during its Thursday night lineup. Under such circumstances, a seventh-season renewal comes without any surprise.

Be that as it may, it’s heartbreaking to confirm that this Grey’s Anatomy spin-off is not new tonight on CBS and won’t return for quite a while owing to SAG-AFTRA strikes. Here’s a complete breakdown of the same.

Initially, like other ABC shows, Station 19 was scheduled to be premiered according to ABC’s fall lineup. However, as mentioned previously, owing to the ongoing strikes, the production schedules of all the shows were postponed indefinitely, including that of Station 19 season 7. Once a fair deal is struck between the concerned parties, the production will kickstart.

However, it will take some time before the fans can watch the premiere of the seventh season, considering that the episodes have to be written and filmed. The writing process is expected to start soon since the WGA strike has ended after 5 months and deals have been made.

Station 19 Season 7 Release Date: Will it arrive in January 2024?

Based on the current situation, we don’t expect Station 19 season 7 to premiere before late 2024.

Confirming this estimate on social media in early June itself, Peter Paige said:

“You likely won’t know what happens until 2024 unless the studios make a deal with the Writers Guild.”

Peter Paige is the newly appointed showrunner of Station 19 for season 7, along with Zoanne Clack. They will be replacing the longtime showrunner and executive producer Krista Vernoff. Having served as a medical adviser, writer, and producer of Grey’s Anatomy, Clack joined the team of Station 19 by initially working as a head writer and then became an executive producer in 2022.

On the other hand, Paige has directed a slew of episodes of Station 19. In season 6, he became an executive producer of the show. Vernoff’s exit from both Station 19 and Grey’s Anatomy was announced in January.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Vernoff’s statement read:

“It has been the privilege of a lifetime to be entrusted to run Grey’s Anatomy for the past six years and Station 19 for the last four. The passion of the dedicated fandoms and the impact that these shows have on hearts and minds cannot be overstated. The amount of talent in these two extraordinary casts and these two brilliant writers’ rooms is beyond measure — and these crews work magic week after week. I will be forever grateful to Shonda Rhimes for her trust and to Disney and ABC for their support.”
