Once upon a time, CBS’ S.W.A.T. was destined to have only six seasons. Thanks to the executive producers of the show who revisited their decision and decided to renew the show for the seventh season. Fans couldn’t be more surprised and excited for the same.
If you were waiting for a new episode to air tonight, we have bad news. There’s no new episode of S.W.A.T. tonight. In fact, we won’t be seeing new episodes anytime soon.
For those unversed, S.W.A.T. is an American police procedural television series that is modeled around Los Angeles Police Department Sergeant Daniel Harrelson and his unit.
Premiered in 2017, the procedural drama has been on air for almost six years. It would have premiered its seventh installment this year as well if it hadn’t been for the strikes. The WGA, or the writers’ strike, took flight in May 2023. A lot of production houses believed that it would die down within a few weeks. It not only continued for almost five months, but it was also joined by the SAG-AFTRA or the Actors’ Union in July.
As a result, the production schedules of broadcast television and OTT entertainment were postponed indefinitely. People had lost all hope for any of their favorite shows or movies premiering in 2024.
In the midst of this darkness came a ray of hope. On Wednesday, September 27, 2023, the WGA strike was officially announced to have ended in the wake of successful negotiations between the concerned parties. What does that mean for the production schedules?
They will begin as soon as possible. Will S.W.A.T. Season 7 arrive on CBS soon?
Here’s what we know so far about it.
S.W.A.T. Season 7: When can we expect it to arrive on CBS?
With the strikes continuing in August and the major part of September, the fall schedule of the broadcast television was entirely disrupted. Consequently, expecting the seventh installment of S.W.A.T. this fall is asking for the will o’ the wisp! But now that the writers’ strike has ended, we can expect the cameras to roll as soon as possible.
Per Deadline, the network executives mentioned that dramas will take approximately eight to 10 weeks before production begins. It may appear to be too long, but it’s still something.
However, we should not forget that the actors’ strike is still ongoing. So, even though the scripts are ready by the end of 10 weeks, the premiere could be pushed back even further if negotiations don’t go successful with the actors’ union. But now that we have a bit of a headway into the situation, we presume that S.W.A.T Season 7 will premiere on CBS in 204.
In the meantime, you can stream the previous seasons on Netflix. The show is available for streaming in six countries, including the US, Canada, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, and Turkey.
