The Chi season 6 has kickstarted on Paramount + and it’s already eight episodes far. Aired on September 24th, 2023, the eighth episode marks the midseason finale of the show for this week. Unfortunately, this finale marks the departure of one of the most prominent characters of the show and we can’t help but get teary-eyed.
In the subsequent episodes, we won’t get to watch more of Alex R. Hibbert’s Kevin Williams, because the writers depicted a well-rounded character, that nobody could ever match. Speaking to Blavity, episode 8 director Rashaad Ernesto Green expressed his emotions on Alex’s departure. He said:
“I worked with Alex a number of times when he was younger and now, here he is this young man, and it was just wonderful to be a part of it. After shooting certain scenes there were lots of hugs and lots of tears and lots of cupcakes and delicious treats from various cast and crew to just enjoy that moment. He’s been such a vital part of the family.”
He further added: “It was wonderful and I’m honored to have been the director to have that final moment with Alex.”
Premiered in 2018 on Showtime, The Chi was created by Lena Waithe, modeling around the South Side of Chicago. With the latest episode of the latest season concluding on such an emotional note, fans are wondering what could happen next in part two. And more importantly, when will they be able to watch it happen?
Here’s what we know so far about it.
The Chi season 6 episode 9: Is it new tonight on Showtime?
Ever since fans realized that The Chi season 6 midseason finale has been split into two parts, their anticipation has skyrocketed to just another level. With the first part marking the end of Kevin, fans are confounded with questions like: Will there be another departure in the next part?
However, one can only know that for sure when part 2 premieres on Showtime. Unfortunately, that won’t happen for the next few months.
In fact, according to HITC, we don’t expect The Chi season 6 finale part 2 to air before 2024.
For those unversed, The Chi sketches out the life of a neighborhood that inhabits diverse individuals who live together and deal with the ebbs and flows of life in solidarity with each other. The show begins with two African-American individuals being shot within 24 hours. Violence and death are not underscored much in this show; it mainly highlights the intricacies of human companionships.
