Is Walker Season 4 Canceled?
Contrary to a buzzing rumor of cancelation for Walker Season 4 due to a lack of updates from the production side, it is not canceled.
Our beloved adventures with Cordell Walker are far from over because after Walker’s Season 3 finale premiered on 11th May 2023, CW renewed the series for another Season in the same month. So, fan favorite Jared Padalecki will be joining us as Cordell Walker for a fourth round of unbridled adventures and crime-fighting.

So, what is causing a release date announcement delay?
Walker Season 4: Is It Affected By The Ongoing Strikes?
With its renewal announcement initiation in May 2023, fans were eagerly anticipating the arrival of Walker Season 4 by the end of 2023. However, seems like fate had other plans for the freshman hit series.
May 2023 witnessed the onslaught of the gravest writer’s protest in the form of the WGA union. Amidst the protest, several competing networks updated their fall broadcast schedules in anticipation of the dissipation of the strikes within the next month. However, in July, the actors union SAG-AFTRA also joined in the protest for their wage rights and better protection against the hindsight of Artificial Intelligence. The last time such a large-scale strike sent Hollywood productions into an indefinite hiatus was 63 whole years ago! We are currently in the third month of this double-strike situation, and there are no hopes for any reconciliation through negotiations.
In a recent meeting held for the first time in more than three months, the Writers Guild and the AMPTP on Friday failed to reach an agreement to resume contract negotiations. Their inability to agree on terms for returning to the bargaining table comes after their much-anticipated meeting to discuss a possible resumption of talks.
“As of now, there is no agreement on these items, because the AMPTP said they needed to consult with their member studios before moving forward,” the union said in a statement recently.
This caused massive confusion and buzz amidst the fandom. We are currently nearing the end of three months of the strike, and no bouts of development or simmering down have been reported. However, we have come across a recent announcement sharing a possible retreat from the indefinite hiatus situation caused by the strike. Hollywood’s striking writers and major studios have agreed to hold talks on Friday for the first time since their strike began over higher pay demands in May 2023.
“We’ll be back in communication with you sometime after the meeting with further information,” the committee told its members in its note.
Though it seems like good news, that doesn’t mean that the chance of the series being delayed further is still on the table if the strikes gain more momentum and don’t reach a resolution within the next few weeks, especially after the meeting.

Walker Season 4 Release Date: Any New Updates?
The current strikes and their widespread implications are no stranger to Hollywood as it has severely affected the fate of scripted shows. So, the fate of Walker Season 4 also rests upon the progress of the strikes. So far as 2023 is concerned, we can safely say that Walker Season 4 will not be joining us. Why?
Firstly, every competitor network, such as CBS, NBC, ABC, and FOX, has altered their fall schedules for 2023 following the volatile situation of the strike, knowing that it is not going to end anytime soon. Most of their initially approved fall programs have been shifted to a mid-season 2024 release that features the months of January, February, March, and April of 2024. Secondly, the news was itself confirmed by the CW network when it released an announcement stating that Walker Season 4 will be picked up in the 2024 mid-season, albeit later than its other competitive networks.
The CW network did give us a heart-in-our-mouth situation when the network got taken over by its parent company, Nextar, liquifying our hopes for Walker’s new Season. Since acquiring a majority stake in The CW last year, parent company Nexstar has largely moved away from the network’s previous scripted series strategy and has instead focused on low-cost unscripted fare, foreign acquisitions, and live sports like LIV Golf. Most recently, The CW picked up the HBO Max reality series “FBoy Island” for a third season while also ordering a spinoff series “FGirl Island.”
On the scripted side, the network previously renewed the high school football drama “All American” for a sixth season. The remaining shows currently on The CW slate are the “Walker” prequel series “Walker: Independence,” “Superman & Lois,” “Gotham Knights,” “All American: Homecoming,” “Kung Fu,” and “The Winchesters.” So, we are thankfully in the clear!
Hence, we can assume that, like its competing networks, CW will be sticking to a mid-2024 release for Walker Season 4. Until further development on the strike situation, we cannot provide a finalized date for its release, only a predicted one. Walker Season 4 Plot: What To Expect In The New Season?

Snippets and possible plotlines are usually revealed close to the date of the premiere of a series, and it looks like Walker Season 4 has a long way to go before such expectations are revealed by the creators and cast members. With the writers and actors currently on strike, it is difficult to determine the exact plotlines that Season 4 of Walker will be picking up. Nevertheless, we can expect it to surround the core basis of the series, which circulates the adventures of Cordell Walker, a widower and father of two with his moral code, as he returns home to Austin after being undercover for two years, only to discover there’s harder work to be done at home.
He must attempt to reconnect with his creative and thoughtful son and his headstrong, somewhat rebellious teenage daughter and navigate clashes with his family – an ADA brother who stepped in during Walker’s absence, his perceptive mother, and his traditional rancher father. Walker finds unexpected common ground with his new partner while growing increasingly suspicious about the circumstances surrounding his wife’s death. We are certain that the fourth season will undoubtedly pick up from the final episode of the third season, “It’s a Nice Day for a Ranger Wedding,” in which the viewers got to see that “It’s a big day for the Texas Rangers and the Walker clan as friends and family gather to celebrate a very special event.”

“We started talking about what the relationship might be between Witt and the park ranger who we ran into during James’ bachelor party, and how they might know each other, whether or not they have some connections with the Jackal, the cold case that’s being reopened…. We played around with a bunch of ideas, and once the writers make the deal with the AMPTP and we get back into storytelling, that’s one of the fun parts of the season, trying to put that LEGO puzzle together.”

Walker Season 4: Confirmed Episode Count And Where To Watch
While we were thrilled over the renewal of Walker for Season 4 and its supposed arrival in the 2024 mid-season window, the confirmation among bleak times came with consequences. Additionally, Nextar acquiring the majority share of the CW network has led to a variety of cost-cutting measures, one of them being cropped Seasons. Hence, while Season 3 of Walker had 18 episodes, Season 4 is reported to have only 13 episodes with a run-time of 40-42 minutes per episode, which will be released on a weekly basis like the prior seasons. When the fourth Season of the series arrives in 2024, it will air on the official CW network, preferably in its Thursday slot.
